About this project

The Intention
The Nutti Yogini is launching the first line of yoga wear that embodies the spirit of yoga in every stitch. It’s figure-flattering, made from sustainable fabrics, built-to-last and 100% made-in-the-USA (all the way down to the zipper – no kidding!). We’ve designed a tummy-tucking pant, a water-wicking tank, a super-soft sweatshirt, a cozy hoodie and a comfy scarf, and we want you to help us make it happen!

The Line
The line has been in the works for over a year and features:

• Sustainable and recycled fabrics
• Organic cottons
• Extra-thick Lycra, built to withstand years of yoga wear
• Moisture-control wick-away fabrics
• A high-rise yoga pant, specially designed with a woman’s body in mind. Muffin top be gone!

We’ve topped it all off with unique Sanskrit “intentions” silkscreened on every piece. For the studied yogini, intentions are a direction that one intends to follow or an aim that guides one’s actions. All of our garments include silk-screened intentions like gratitude and serenity. These can serve as a point of focus during meditation, or a secret reminder throughout your day, whether practicing yoga or not. Either way, these clothes help keep the power of om with you always.

The Story
I am – well – the Nutti Yogini. For years yoga has helped me find my center, but it became clear to me long ago that my Kundalini can’t rise through chakras shrouded in itchy fabrics and ill-fitting garments. How could I focus on my perfect padmasana when I was always worrying about my muffin top, fussing with an uncomfortable waistband, or checking to see if that hole in the back of my pants had grown too big for comfort?

Something had to change. Using the experience I gained when launching my original om-inspired jewelry collection, I set out to design a clothing line that embodies what yoga is to me – inside and out.

It had to be sustainable, comfortable, thoughtful and made-in-America, and it had to come close to the price I had been paying for generic, outsourced clothing. This isn’t just another yoga line. It’s built to hug a woman’s curves, fit comfortably, and last for a very long time.

I started with the pants – the bane of my life as a yogini. Low-rise jeans might be trendy, but the low waist just doesn’t work for all of us. Our high-rise pant is designed to tame a woman’s mid-section – almost like a control top – without feeling tight or suffocating. In other words, no more muffin top! We’ve used an extra-thick high-end Lycra fabric in the body of the pant, which smooths cellulite and gives a sleek body line. What woman doesn’t want that!

I then tackled my next major issue: sweat. Real women don’t glisten - they sweat – and it can do a number on our clothes. We designed a tank top for real women using a special wick-away fabric that helps eliminate odor build-up in your clothing. A full shelf bra is built in to keep your assets safe and secure.

Over the past year we’ve expanded these innovations into a full line, including an additional low-rise pant, a sweatshirt, tee, hoodie and scarf. All sustainable, designed for women and 100% made in America!

The People
I am Jessica Alexander, known to my friends as the Nutti Yogini. I created and developed the Nutti Yogini jewelry collection over the past several years. Based around symbols that help you bring “intentions” into your daily life, this line is made with semi-precious stones, sterling silver and 14kt gold vermeil. Each piece personifies an objective, such as wisdom, serenity or gratitude, and they are worn by women throughout the country.

Yoga has helped me through some tough times in my life, and I hope that my jewelry, and now my clothes, will help others discover the benefits of yoga and meditation.

The Funds and the Future
I’ve spent the past year hard at work, throwing my sweat and tears into assembling a team and getting this line ready for production. We have made our patterns, sewn/embroidered/silk-screened sample garments, and we have a production team in place. We also found sources for fabrics, threads and even zippers in the USA (no small feat)! By supporting this project you will be helping to underwrite another great made-in-the-USA business.

We need your help to jumpstart Nutti Yogini and put us all into overdrive. The money raised on Kickstarter will go toward fabric; building a look-book to get us in front of industry buyers; pay our suppliers for a large-scale production run; and cover the costs of silk-screening and embroidery. Our website is already up-and-running and ready to process orders.
