Kickstarter

Project Goal:  

Slated for release in July of 2013. I have been working on this body of photographs for almost ten years.  I am hoping to raise over $1,000.00 so that I can created a limited edition of 75 hand made artist books for this project.  (I will be working in the amazing EM Space.) Of course it will cost  way more than that of 75 books but this series will be be started with Kickstarter monies. Due to the all or nothing policy I wanted to set a goal of making the first 5 with your backing.  This is my life's work so anything over $1,000 will be put to good use and the difference will accounted for by my continued grants writing and personal funding.

Project Statement: 

Since 2003 I have photographed my life. During this time, I have focused my lens towards my intimate experiences, allowing my work to revolve around my relationships, surroundings and perceptions. Collectively titled We Are All A Part, this diaristic project has chronicled the changing currents of my early adulthood.

"Self-Portrait - Waiting" 

  Sometimes playing a role for the camera allows me to feel outside of myself. Other times it forces me to feel my skin tautly strung over my bones. I see myself in my mind's eye and feel fragile and human. That vulnerability is as thrilling as it is terrifying.

  "Intimacy"

During our lives we reach points in time where we are forced to seek answers to the questions of our origins, how and why we have come to be.   Through this form of questioning we begin to examine the complexity of our connections to each other. Eventually we develop our own version of a personal history. In many respects these personalized narratives hold us to our persona and patterns of life. They serve as markers, a way for us to reflect on the passing of time.

I have access to a Epson 7900 and would like to self publish a book 12" x 15" with over 75 photographs. In addition, I will be creating a MagCloud copy, so in addition to the handmade monograph the book will also be available in digital and magazine form.

Personal:

 This project was originally started as a year long self assignment to document my first year living across the country from my parents with my sister in New Mexico.  During this time I met my partner and since we have traveled the world together, moving every couple of years.  Using this project as a stepping stone, I attended Syracuse University’s MFA program and dedicated my studies to perfecting this body of imagery. I weaved together landscapes, portraits and snapshots to create a captivating narrative flow.

I'm a shooter. I still shoot film with my Mamiya RZ and scan my negatives with an Imacon scanner.  I have over 1,000 roles of film that I am culling from. You can view the latest working edit on Issuu.com .
