back to work + postcards
Yesterday, we returned to the studio to start rehearsing for the July 30 performance of A Thousand Natural Shocks. We spent the first hour or so talking. It's been less than two weeks since the premiere, but we have all been so variously busy or occupied that it feels much longer. This was our first chance to have a proper dissection of the experience... If you ever want to see a group of people whiplash madly from pride to doubt to intelligent criticism to vague pontification, all accompanied by clownish gestures, I recommend eavesdropping on a group of dancers in the throes of post-performance examination.
(Actually, I'm not sure that anyone would want to see such a thing. Here I am, crushing glamour and magic.)
Anyway, we have, hesitantly and for now, landed on the side of this was pretty good. We'll still be nervous, will pick the piece apart and run it over as many times as our remaining rehearsals will allow, but we can all relax the tiniest bit and let everything settle in. We can enjoy the strange effect that performance seems to have on body and memory, locking in details and responses that were precarious right up to curtain. Now, it makes sense.
We also just printed another batch of promotional postcards. These are oversized postcards printed with dates and performance information, so they're formatted differently from the postcards we'll be making for our Kickstarter rewards. The images will be the same though, so here they are, four out of the eventual six-image set. Enjoy!
