‘Smokin’ a film by David Cocheret

 

‘Smokin’ tells the story of Petra, a woman in her seventies, who truly believes that she is 21 years old. Petra is young and she is smoking hot, that’s what she believes. She loves to dress up in mini skirts and to wears a lot of make up. Though she is a heavy smoker, Petra loves to work out in her very tight 80’s aerobics outfit every day.

 

We soon discover Petra is completely delusional as we watch her conversations with her best friend Greta, a woman her age. Petra tells of her amazing dating experiences with hot young men. In this film we see the ugly truth about the actual dates and her non- existing love life.

 

The only man that seems to like Petra is her neighbor Herman, 70 years old and a retired salesman. She rudely rejects him, day after day. Herman is far too old for her….

 

Greta likes to hear Petra’s crazy love stories. She feels bad for Petra but that doesn’t stop her from visiting her once a month. When Greta suddenly dies, Petra is shocked. She realizes life is short and that you can only treasure what you have. Petra realizes that she has to accept who she really is.

 

Don’t we all have a Petra inside of us? Is it hard to see what we have and have not accomplished in our lives? How difficult is it to grow up? Can we face loneliness?
