re.tard has been going on since january 2012, as a weekly performance series. I'd like to raise money to cover 4 months of rent, food and the work of administering and curating the show. if these costs are covered, then i can Split The Door With The Performers Who Perform!
it's a performance series that welcomes the odd, the unfinished, the gorgeously ugly, the pieces that often fall into the cracks of comedy, theater, poetry and music performance series.
It's a place for artists, musicians, actors, theater artists, dancers, improvisers to try new ideas in front of a warm, caring, audience who is gorging themselves on home made cakes and teas.
It's a place to make a fool of yourself, dare, be inventive, splash and flail around; to not have to be 'good' and in the doing of that, become great.
It's a weekly series with a special monthly show called crack.
there are props and costumes workshops where karen leads people in theater exercises, machinations from her brain watching to see how she can bring out the best in them and then et voila! put it together and make small pieces.
there are workshops for adults as well as families where karen will guide parents and children to make pieces together. All the pieces developed in the workshops can be performed at the weekly shows.
part of the reason i'm doing the kickstarter is also to reach out to people, let them know what's happening and hopefully, entice people to perform, to come and watch, to eat cake, to take workshops, et cetera. hi.
