It's official! If we succeed we are the first VFX SCI FI SHORT FILM shot entirely on the RED EPIC!
We've been given a provisional "Congratulations" from the folks over at RED and we've a tentative confirmation in the REDUSER forums! There currently are no other substantiated vfx sci fi short films shot entirely on the Red Epic released! The big issue seems to be getting the vfx completed for such a film, as the nature of short film often means a small budget. In most cases it becomes cost prohibitive to create cg visual effects at the high resolutions needed to match the footage from the RED Epic. Also, most editing and compositing programs can't handle the Epic footage at full size. Below is a frame size comparison from SD all the way to feature film resolution at 2k and 4k, all the way up to a RED Epic frame size at 5k.
