Ooh, COLORS...
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but I've been busy getting some color samples done. That's enough talk, so enjoy the photo!
Clockwise from top left: "hammer tone" (won't be offered, but the paint shop made one just so I'd see what it looks like. Interesting, but a bit too much like the interior of an oven for me), silver (also not offered here, but a possibility in the future), gold (offered as a limited color), red (also a limited edition), white (base color), and anthracite gray (offered as a limited color). As for black, we're still sourcing a darker-than-dark shade and I'm not convinced that I've hit the extreme yet. So stay tuned!

Bending tubes...
After the initial rough sketch (as shown in Update #14), I had to come up with a way to bend copper tubes in a consistent manner. And that meant NOT doing it by hand alone but instead making a quick and dirty "jig". The idea I came up with is to cut off pre-measured segments of PVC piping (PIC 1) and then slip-fit them together to create a "track" to lay down and bend the copper tubes (PIC 2). This took a few tries, because the track couldn't be too narrow (the tube will get stuck) and it couldn't be too wide (the tube will start to bend about multiple axes rather than flat). But I finally got it to work (PIC 3) and the result was consistent bends (PIC 4) and, by extension, two more-or-less accurately and similarly sized frames (PIC 5).

As we approach July 4th, the Independence Day of the United States, I'd like to thank everyone--no matter where you are from--for supporting a project that is very dear to me on many different levels. Not the least of which is the fact that the Guilin Bike Stand is a product of not just my own creativity but that of the small-scale shops and their craftsmen's skills. The design of the GBS is inspired by Chinese culture, but at its core it's a product of my personal experiences, ideas, and beliefs--most of which are owed to the unique influences of living and learning in the U.S.A. And so, "Designed in the U.S.A." and "Made in the U.S.A." are not simply labels; they represent an utmost satisfaction of carrying it from concept sketches, to prototyping, and to production all within my immediate environment. That undoubtedly has been a big challenge, but it also makes the fruit of that effort doubly sweet. Thanks again for your interest in and support for the Guilin Bike Stand. Happy Fourth of July!
