A film exhibiting the natural beauty of Arizona by documenting an 800 mile solo hike across the entire state via the Arizona Trail.
Arizona contains some of the most breathtaking and diverse wildlife in the entire United States. It is even home to one of the World's 7 Natural Wonders. However it's an unfortunate fact that the majority of its visitors never experience what Arizona truly has to offer. A study shows that over 90% of the State's tourists never venture further than 100 yards from a road or their car.
That's why, beginning in August, I'll begin shooting a documentary that exhibits the true natural beauty of Arizona by walking across the entire state via the 800 mile Arizona Trail. I've arranged to have a friend from drop me off at the Utah/Arizona border where I'll begin heading south towards Mexico. The trail traverses through 2 National Parks (The Grand Canyon and Saguaro East) in addition to a multitude of National Forests and Wilderness Areas. Some of the trail has not yet been finalized, so a GPS will be utilized to help navigate over 40 miles of proposed routes. My goal for this project is to inspire the film's viewers to get out and experience the incredible beauty of a place that they may not have previously known about.
Since food and water resupplies are scarce along the trail, a fast pace will be required. I'll be hiking alone and plan to complete the trail in under 45 days. My hiking days will average anywhere from 15-25 miles per day with a maximum of 7-8 rest days. None of my food resupplies will be mailed, I plan to buy everything locally. There will be a total of 8 resupplies and an average of 90 miles in between each resupply point. As far as charging my camera equipment is concerned, I have a lightweight, foldable, 12 volt solar panel that will be clipped to the outside of my pack to recharge batteries as I hike.
My intent for this campaign is to raise enough money to pay for the cost of food while on the trail. Although my trail diet typically consists of low cost foods such as peanut butter, oatmeal and macaroni and cheese, I'm still having difficulty covering the cost. Even if you cannot donate, passing this project on to your friends would be an incredible help. Keep in mind any leftover money raised will be donated to the Arizona Trail Association to help build and maintain the Arizona Trail.
This is a very special project to me and anyone support I receive would mean a lot to me. Thanks so much for checking out my KickStarter page!
