I would like to build three additional hives for my apiary With more hives I will be able to make more honey and re-establish the Bee
Goal Met!! Lets Keep Going!!!
Thank you everyone for your pledges. I cant tell you how much it means to my family and I that we can extend our apiary.
Since we still have plenty of time. I propose a goal extention....
Lets keep going!! I would like to help the bee population by breeding them for other beekeepers and new people looking to get into beekeeping.
All additional money pledged I would like it to go towards building and developing "nucs" or mini beehives used to help start a new hive or hives. I would also like to get "queening" equipment. This is used to develop new queens for replacing the old ones in the hives.
Building "nuc" hives will allow others to participate and help create habitats on their own.
Please help support the bees by supporting me!
Thank you again!
-North Fork Bee Co.
Welcome! Thanks for checking out our project.
With your help, the North Fork Bee Co. will expand its bee yard by building three to five additional bee hives. By adding these hives we will be able increase production of hive products (including honey!), along with purchasing enough proper tools to educate others how to keep bees of their own.
What's this all about?
With your support, North Fork Bee Co. will be able to produce about 90 to 150 more pounds of delicious wildflower honey and help bees thrive in good health by providing a pesticide-free environment. Pesticides are thought to be at the center of the CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) crisis. North Fork Bee Co. will manage hives without the use of synthetic chemicals on pesticide-free land.
Meet the North Fork Bee Co..
My family currently has just a few bee hives in our backyard in Wading RIver, NY, located at the start of the North Fork of Long Island. The North Fork offers a wide variety of landscapes. From the water views of the Long Island Sound and Peconic River, farms, and vineyards this part of Long Island is largely diverse.
Our bees currently produce enough honey for the enjoyment of our family and friends. We are hoping to expand our number of hives and therefore our honey production in order to share our honey and love of the honeybee with even more people.
Why I need your help.
With your pledge of support, we will expand on our existing hives, and expand into an apiary of slightly larger capacity. Your pledges will make it possible for us to continue our work with healthy bees and to share their story (and honey) with a wider audience. The money you pledge will go towards the building of new hives. This includes the purchase of hives, bees, queens. Our Kickstarter goal of $2,000 will go directly to covering these costs.
What else is at stake?
The honeybee in the United States is in trouble. Because of environmental factors like the overuse of pesticides, attacks by predatory mites, and now even to Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), honeybee numbers in the U.S. are dwindling at an alarming rate.
Only honeybees can pollinate our flowers and crops to the extent we need. Honey, with all of its nuances and health benefits, can be produced only by bees. Our vast scientific knowledge cannot manufacture hive products in the laboratory. Without the honeybee to take care of pollination and to create the hive products, we are in trouble.
We can do something about it!
North Fork Bee Co. will help make beekeeping accessible to everyone. We hope to educate as many others as possible on the wonders of the honeybee and show them that beekeeping can be a fun family activity. Observing the bees’ work and flight is a great way for loved ones to spend time together and the harvest of one’s own honey and beeswax makes it even more fun! It is our hope that more families will start beekeeping to help reestablish dwindling honeybee populations.
