About this project
We initially started this 45 day Kickstarter to make $5000.00 as a nice boost towards recording our first full length record. 5 days later we are absolutely floored by all of the love and support you guys have shown us. It's difficult to put into words, let alone believe. You Guys Did It!!! We'll never be able to thank you guys enough. Hopefully these rewards will help though. The fact is we do legitimately need much much more than that to finish, master, and print this record. We've got roughly 40 days left on this thing. Let's see if we can get that number up to $10,000.00 in that time. You guys up for the challenge? We Are!!

The Californian is a band that would have never ever existed were it not for the love and support of those around us. I would never have even turned this strange little surf project into a live band had my friends not pushed and shoved me to do so. Those same friends became members of the band. We always want to include everyone who is interested and wants to become part of the family. If you push and shove us to do something, we'll do it, and we'll bring you with us when we do.
Well we need some pushing and shoving right now. It's time to head into the studio and record our first full length studio album, and that takes the kind of pushing and shoving that you can take to the bank. We've got the same amazing team lined up that we had for our EP Sea Of Love - with genius Producer Jeff Halbert and Mastering badass JJ Golden ready to make your ears smile. Only this time we've got Many Many more songs for you that we're dying for you to hear. Creative professionals of that caliber don't come for free. We're setting up this Kickstarter to raise $5,000 towards the project. In all honesty we need at least twice that to get the thing recorded, mixed, mastered, printed, and all legalized and into your ears. But it would help us towards our goal so so much if this works out.
We're hoping this kickstarter will allow us to make the best record we possibly can and also help us finally give back to those who have supported us all along the way. So please check out the various rewards we're offering for donating to our first full length record fund. We've got 45 days to make this happen, kids. Let's do it!!!

If you find yourself asking, “Why am I dancing and singing along to a song about murder?”, You are probably watching The Californian as they try desperately to drown Los Angeles in reverb. Matching surf guitars and skinny ties backed by beach party drums and a lot of sweat are also a good indicator. Since they released their EP - Sea Of Love in June of 2010, the band has been blasting their own dark and dreamy version of Surf Rock around southern California, “... making boys dance, and girls swoon ...”
Formed in ’07 as singer John Graney’s fantasy surf act, the bands early years were shifty, sifting through members of Phantom Planet, Warpaint, The Bird And The Bee, The Henry Clay People, and many other local bands. 4 years deep, the lineup has settled down with Graney on lead vocals, guitarists Jonathan Price and Darren Robinson, drummer Michael Hopkins, and bassist Jake Gideon. The band is currently playing shows all over the southland while working on their debut full length record.
