This year we are raising funds for two shows - Pandora: A Tragicomic Greek Romp AND Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending.
What we want to do....
This summer, The Impressionable Players is trying to fund not one but TWO shows! Pandora: A Tragicomic Greek Romp is making its World Premiere at the DC Capital Fringe Festival this July at Studio's Mead Theatre. Last year's Capital Fringe "Pick of the Fringe" Award Winner for Best Comedy & Best Overall Show, Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending will be making its New York debut at the New York International Fringe Festival this August.
Pandora: A Tragicomic Greek Romp
Pandora: A Tragicomic Greek Romp is a classic tale of boy meets girl. Except this time she’s got a mysterious box that can destroy the world. When Pandora, an enchanting girl with a mysterious box, shows up in Neapolis, the whole town welcomes her with open arms. She gives them only one rule—never open the box. But why does it seem like things are starting to go wrong all of a sudden? Why can’t she tell them who she is? And what could possibly be in that box…? Ancient Greek epic meets madcap comedy in a story about monsters, mythology, and a box that must never be opened.
Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending
Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending, is an original work that explores the role of choice and chance in love by giving the audience a say in how the tale of Romeo and Juliet unfolds. The audience has the opportunity to vote at three different junctures in the story, resulting in one of eight possible endings. Some end tragically, others comically; some closely resemble the original play, whereas others depart from it dramatically. In our version, the very first choice is whether Romeo should pursue Juliet at all, or continue pining after Rosaline. But every night the audience is assured a story of its own choosing, full of tears, mirth, and iambic pentameter. For more info, check out some of our reviews from last summer here:

What is a Fringe Festival....
Both the Capital Fringe Festival and the New York International Fringe Festival were started as an offshoot of Scotland's Edinburgh Fringe Festival and gives smaller theatre groups (who are "on the fringe") the opportunity to perform their work in a professional setting. The DC Capital Fringe Festival is celebrating their sixth year and have about 140 different performing groups who would otherwise not be able to produce their show for a public audience. The New York International Fringe Festival, celebrating their 15th anniversary this year, has an adjudicated application process and chose Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending to be a part of FringeNYC's festival of 194 shows (out of over 800 applicants!).
What your money is for....
As students and recent graduates, we have an extremely limited budget for our two productions. Right now, we are struggling to make ends meet for the necessary expenses required for these two shows this summer. For Pandora: A Tragicomic Greek Romp we need funds for costumes, set pieces, props, entry fees, and advertising materials. Although we have the physical materials from previous productions of Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending, we still need to pay for festival entry fees, marketing, and of course, housing and transportation for fifteen people.
Last year, your donations made Romeo & Juliet: Choose Your Own Ending a success. With your help, we were able to sell out our venue in advance for every single performance, get great reviews, and win Best Comedy and Best Overall Show at Fringe. We did not have the resources to do this on our own. Our Kickstarter and all of the very awesome people who pledged their support made this possible. Please help us take the next step this year--to put up a new show we believe in and to take R&J up to NYC. Traveling to New York is an extraordinary opportunity for all of the young actors, designers, and production team working on this show.
To find out more about us, our plays, or see pictures of our troupe, check out our website: http://impressionableplayers.com/. And, once you’re done checking out our website, please come back to Kickstarter and give us a donation - every little bit helps! Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts!
