Starting the Mural at the Seattle Boat Show!
Hi Everyone!
Well things are progressing along great with this project, its so great to see all the backers supporting us! I want to give a special shout out to our backers in Spain, who have been spreading the news about the project among the Spanish speakers :)
I got a chance to get the mural started at the Seattle Boat Show this weekend, with the help of my crew members. The generous people at the Seattle Boat Show, namely Mr. Brad Vickers
donated us a booth so we could talk about Live Ocean and try out this whole idea of letting people sign our sails. We asked for a small donation, but mostly we wanted to get the word out about what we are doing.
I was the first one to sign, I used a giant marker and really went for it. Writing on my sails in permanent ink was a bit scary, but luckily I was quite happy with my signature.
Soon we had kids dressed up as pirates, messages of good luck from families, and even got signatures from the guys at Adventures Ocean Racing (OAR) Northwest for good luck! These guys are getting ready for their second trip rowing across the Ocean. Yup, in a rowboat, totally human powered, with no support boat, how AWESOME is that. They signed right on the clew of the square sail, so I figure all the good mojo will really help us get this project off the ground.
We made progress getting a few hundred signature on this sail, but we still have thousands of square feet to go to create this mural! We also made some dacron "fish", I had a lot of fun designing one for my family. Now I just have to decide where to put it . . .
We only have 20 days left to get to our goal so tell your friends, tell strangers, tell EVERYONE and let's go change the world!
Cheers,
Captain Julia
