Update #7: Here it is! FOK DUB (digital)
Friends,
It's time to get FOK DUB: http://jasonmolin.net/audio/FOKDUB/Jason_Molin-FOK_DUB.zip Click to download then double click to unzip. Put it in your player and smoke it.
You can learn more about the album and leave comments at jasonmolin.net/FOKDUB. I hope you like it and would love to know what you think.
I'm releasing the record in Austin Sunday evening 6:30-8. If you can make it, you will have over 200 custom decorated covers to choose from.
For those of you who can't collect your record in-person, I'll follow this email up to ask for your address (using Kickstarter's built-in survey) and send a CD asap.
After the release you'll hear more about tshirts, drawings, and songs if you pledged at those levels.
Thank you so so much for the support,
j
Update #6: I've finished the album!
FOKs,
I've just given my approval of the final mixes for all ten songs of FOK DUB. Woohoo!!!! A year and a month after you pledged your support and I set out to record this album, I'm actually done. While Dr. Mordo masters the tracks I'll be hand-decorating the cases (which arrived today) with a custom "FOK DUB" on every one.
It is my pleasure to make sure that you, my backers, be the first ones to get a copy of this album. The online release and Austin release party are now scheduled for the week of Thanksgiving, but you'll have them before that and before anyone else. After creating the original art for the covers I'll ask folks to vote on which design should go on the t shirts.
Thank you for the faith, patience, and excitement. I am so relieved, proud and psyched to be releasing this record! Just today I've confirmed the gorgeous terraced hillside overlooking the water at Laguna Gloria for a sunset release on Nov. 27th, so if you're in or can make it to Austin, mark your calendars, this is going to be a FOKing great time.
DUBly yours,
everyday j

Update #5: Rounding the Home Stretch
Hey y'all,
I've sent 9 of the 10 tracks off to be mixed and I've set my sights on getting you first peek at the album by Sept. 5th, my birthday, one year from when you pledged to help me make FOK DUB.
Thank you for your patience as I finish the record.
I hope you enjoy the preview I've uploaded of God Has Been Good To Me (below) and can hear how nicely Dr. Mordo is mixing everything together.
peace,
j

This is sounding terrific, J! Congrats on your hard work paying off and I'm excited to hear more. :)

Loved it, especially the vocals. I'm not a music professional and since it is not a final mix I'm sure the music part will be ironed out. I really liked it. Cool.

Update #4: Lots of Good News
Kick-ass Kickstarters,
A bunch of good news to report:
1) I was on the front page of the Sunday business section yesterday as part of an article on crowdfunding. This project just keeps paying off! The interview for the paper reminded me again of how important you all have been to me.
I often motivate myself with the thought of your trusting expectations. See the story in the Statesman (and the cool shot they got of me standing in the creek).
2) I found someone good to mix the album, which is a godsend b/c it means I won't have to do it myself (which is fortunate, b/c I don't really have the expertise)! A friend of a friend - we'll call him Dr. Mordo - who is a musician and capable audiophile had begun mixing the tunes.
This is doubly-beneficial b/c it is making me finish. I'm still hoping to be done this month with the clean mixes so we can post tracks and let the DJs start remixing. I'll have the basic album done next month and am planning on sharing that exclusively with y'all first, (though the official release, with remixes, won't be till Fall).
3) As soon as the basic album is done I will be able to concentrate on producing the tshirts, drawings, and custom songs that y'all ordered. I will be in touch about these. Thanks for your patience.
4) I've been cooking up some big ideas about how I do gigs, my story, my niche... which I can't wait to share with you as this album comes out this Fall. For a little taste of what I'm talking about, see the little story I put together with a few drawings of how I found my sweet spot as a musician.
dubly yours,
j
Update #3: FOK DUB album progress (including preview of first track)
Kickstarters,
I'm wrapping up recording this month and hoping to have the album out in April. I'll contact everyone who pledged for a t-shirt, drawing or song over email and we can work out the details.
Take a listen to this rough mix of I Can See You (player below). I'm thinking of making it the first song on the album. What do you think? It still needs backup singers and lead guitar, but those horns are sounding good, aren't they?
Thanks for your patience. With a one-year old time is scarcer than money, so the album keeps me up doing what I love.
lub,
j

Funding Successful
This project successfully raised its funding goal on October 14, 2010.
Pledge $5 or more Pledge $5 or more
You get the digital album (mp3s) with pics and video from the making of the album. That's half-off the iTunes price and only 50 cents a song for ten songs with dub remixes and multimedia.
Pledge $10 or more Pledge $10 or more
All the above (mp3s) PLUS a signed CD mailed to you. I'm going into the studio to make sure this baby sounds sonically fantastic. You'll want to hear this drum and bass, these horns and backup singers on your home stereo and in your car. Then you'll want to share it with a friend.
Pledge $20 or more Pledge $20 or more
All the above (mp3s, CD) PLUS a 100% cotton t-shirt with a hand-sketched "FOK DUB" on it. This is your party shirt, people. Everyone will have a better time when you wear it.
Pledge $50 or more Pledge $50 or more
All the above (mp3s, CD, T) PLUS a custom drawing. I'll do a little cartoon of you, your girl or guy, your kid, pet, car, whatever you want. Just send me a pic and I'll draw a j-style cartoon of it, frame it and send it to you with love.
Pledge $100 or more Pledge $100 or more
All the above (mp3s, CD, T, drawing) PLUS your own song. What is your own song? Maybe you have lyrics, or ideas, or a request for a cover, or we could co-write a song (by email is easy). Maybe it's for someone you love, a birthday or a project you're working on. I'll record it up real nice for ya. And, yes, you can have another song for every hundred you pledge.
Pledge $500 or more Pledge $500 or more
All the above (mp3s, CD, T, drawing, song) PLUS a meal and music night by me. If you live anywhere near Austin, DC, NYC, or San Diego, I'll come over, we'll eat, drink, and have a wonderful night of music. I'd love to play for you and as many people you want to invite. Or we can just play our favorite recordings for each other and talk music. This would be great big or small. Invite folks and have a party. All the above. Other locations will need to help with transportation.
