About this project
People come together
Neighborhoods connect
Design discourse creates a Visual Voice.
Urban Studio is creating a city-wide series of conversations to create design responses for shared needs. The physical manifestation of these ‘charrettes’ will be exhibited in Philadelphia’s City Hall and will frame the discussion for a symposium on neighborhood-led design. Both of these events will take place during DesignPhiladelphia – a major design event that draws 230,000+ attendees per year. All of this work will be extensively documented via a digital publication and dvd.
The collective voice of Philadelphians has a stronger opportunity to frame the evolution of Philadelphia. People – through grassroots organizations and neighborhood efforts – are driving the design of their everyday city. Urban Studio is creating the megaphone to further the spread and impact of this voice and connecting it to the powers that be of City Hall.
Linking the efforts underway in the neighborhoods to those in progress at the City level creates an opportunity for residents to inform the design criteria for future projects. Having a voice in declaring their rights is what Philadelphians are all about.
