About this project

Once upon a world, there was a place called the Kingdom of Loathing. . .

Oh. Em. Gee. I thought we would do it, but I didn't know we'd do it this fast. Thanks to all of you, and please keep sharing the link. We've funded the first four books -- can we fund the whole run? How many copies can we pre-sell? The more interest there is in the project, the more cool stuff we can do!

We now return you to our regularly-scheduled pitch:

-----------------------------------------------------

Everyone's favorite stick-figure RPG comes to vibrant, amazingly-illustrated life in Kingdom of Loathing: The Comic Book!

Issue #1, titled "Wanna Go Ride Bikes?," is the first in a six-part comic book series written by KoL's Joshua "Mr. Skullhead" Nite and illustrated by webcomic wizard Doug Kallberg (http://www.freerangecomics.com).

This epic tale of epic adventure and epic epicness (and Syrup of Ipecac) begins in Hey Deze, the Kingdom of Low Things, with a hideous demon named Azazel who is desperately seeking not Susan, but three evil talismans.

What are these nasty artifacts? Why does Azazel want them? And what does this have to do with plucky teenage sauceror Jill 8-Pack, her Attention-Deficit Demon, and her beloved stuffed purple unicorn?

What, why, and what indeed. Though she's only just begun to cast her first Saucestreams, Jill must take on the minions of Azazel on a perilous quest to find out, first and foremost, just what the Hey Deze is going on.

The purpose of this project is to fund the creation of the first issue of the Kingdom of Loathing comic book series. The amount we've targeted will pay our wonderful artist, and allow for an initial print run of 2,000 copies of issue #1, full-color with glossy covers.  So far, Josh has written five of the six scripts, and Doug has almost finished illustrating the first issue. We are all so excited about it we can barely contain ourselves, and can't wait to share Josh and Doug's vision with you.

If the Kickstarter funds 150%, or $6750, we will immediately begin production on issue #2. If it funds 200%, or $9,000, We'll get rolling on the entire series and begin thinking about a trade paperback.  If it funds 1,000%, or $45,000, we will be totally, totally surprised.

(Josh says: seriously, you guys, this is so much fun to write, and Doug's kicking out the jams bringing my weird-ass scripts to life. I cannot wait for you to hold the first issue in your hands.)

Doug has graciously agreed to put up five more pages of original art -- the actual inks on full-size comic board -- as the first five were gone before the weekend was over. And of course, you get everything from the $370 level, too, because baby, nothing's too good for you.

Joshua Nite, aka Mr. Skullhead, will fly to your home (anywhere in the U.S. -- sorry, rest of the world), hand-deliver all your other rewards, cook you dinner, and hang out until you ask, nay, beg him to leave. He knows lots of jokes and stories, can quote literally hundreds of movies, and even plays a little guitar! You can't buy quality entertainment like that, unless you totally do.

The Kingdom of Loathing has been entertaining stick-figure and role-playing-game enthusiasts since 2003, with over two million players on all six inhabited continents. Not bad for a boring and pointless game with no future, huh?

Joshua "Mr. Skullhead" Nite is 33 years old and lives in Minneapolis, MN with his wife and adorable toddler. He has worked with Kingdom of Loathing since its inception, making with the jokes and generally slathering his personality all over the project, unsanitarily.

Doug Kallberg lives in Minneapolis, was recently married, and was ideally suited for KoL's weirdness, having spent years writing and drawing gonzo webcomic Pandora's Box.
