I am a 34-year-old dreamer. Unfortunately that doesn't pay very well, so I have a day job as well. I've been writing since I was 15, unfortunately, I'm a very harsh critic of my work, and have always stopped myself before getting far enough to try publishing, either because I didn't think I was good enough to get a publisher, or because I couldn't put together enough money to have any real chance of being successful as a self-publisher.
That's changed. I'm too old to have this dream and never try to follow it. I have finally decided that it is now or never. So I'm putting my all into this attempt. I will be working to create an epic fantasy. There will be warriors, wizards, possibly a damsel maybe a dragon or two, fights, and of course, mead. I'm planning to self-publish, which means that there will be many additional costs. Printing of the books (as I intend to have a limited print run), marketing, editors, more editors, the list goes on and on. That's where Kickstarter and you come in. Your pledges will be used to fund all the minutiae involved in self publishing, like the purchase of ISBNs, having the formats converted to work with all the different readers, and other assorted minor costs. Also, these pledges will go to the larger costs as well, like the cost of editors and marketing. In all, these pledges take this self publishing dream from something that might be fun, but not truly profitable, to something that might make enough money on this first book to allow me to move to writing as a full time job, once this book is published, instead of something I do when I have the time.
The Bladeborn Chronicles will be the story of young Daami, a man raised to serve his country and king. A soldier, he always felt he was serving the people of his homelands. When all the beliefs he held about the king he serves are shattered, he has several paths to choose from. Soldier, mercenary, assassin, hero, rebel, all this and more will be open to Daami as he leaves his homeland, and begins a journey which could end with the destruction of everything he once protected.

Ever wanted to have your name (or some variation of your name) in a book? The $50 pledge means you'll come to me with a character name idea. If your idea (or your name) fits, awesome. If it doesn't we negotiate until we come to some suitable middle ground where the name fits into the world I'm creating, and gives you the joy of knowing that, in some fashion, you're in the book somewhere. If we can't get a name close enough to what you were thinking, I can think about tweaking the description of the character to look more like you, or possibly add a monogram with your initials. What I'm trying to say is that, I'll work to make you happy with the little piece of you that is in the book, without compromising the setting.
