A series of paintings, by artist Margo Cavis, about one of our most precious resources - water! An exploration of world water issues.
Hello! My name is Margo Cavis. I am a painter, photographer and filmmaker. I am currently working on a new series of paintings titled "The Real Liquid Gold". These paintings will be depicting every different water related issue I can think of. Some examples include: lack of clean drinking water, water pollution, damage to marine habitats, invasive species and overfishing - to name a few. I will also be accepting topic suggestions for this project.
Water covers 70.9% of the Earth's surface and is vital for all known forms of life. It takes so much water to make everything we produce and own. Nearly 90 percent of the consumption of the world’s fresh water supply is used for producing food and energy.
In my paintings, I want to explore all aspects of this planet's water - from over-use and pollution - to the life of the creatures that live in it. By painting about this as well as documenting all my research along the way, I hope to raise awareness about the preciousness of this essential resource. The imagery will show these topics in a surreal, interesting way. Depicting the trials and pain - as well as the beauty and power of life that water provides. (The new paintings will NOT center around the redhead woman - with the exception of one transitional painting. The rest will feature different people, animals and the environment - anything effected by water.) Also, I am not going for shock value, I want to make the viewer think and still enjoy the paintings.

For this to be a reality, I need to raise $11,750... I know this seems like a lot to raise, but this is a bare minimum to cover a studio and supplies for 6 months, preparation for the gallery show, plus the cool stuff I am sending out to all the awesome people who contribute to this project.

I have a really hard time asking for donations for my art, but the universe seems to be telling me - "It's time!" I have had several shows in the past... when I am able to complete a body of work it's always been shown. But the reality (should I say the expenses) of life and being a mother has always made it extremely hard to have time to fully devote myself to my art. So, I fell into a career as a Graphic Designer - then an Art Director - to provide for my family. But now, so many circumstances are making that career seem completely wrong and even impossible to continue. I am self employed and my last big client wanted to cut my pay in half, which I couldn't afford to do.
After that, when trying to decide on a plan, the question came up - "What do I really want to do?" Well, I want to paint. I have always wanted to paint. I need to paint! So, I am determined. I have 2 paintings already in progress and the ideas and inspiration are flowing freely. I believe this will be a really special body of work - and a powerful statement!
