BEST RALEIGH includes artists and residents using vacant storefronts as canvases for public art. New Project: Dillon Supply Warehouse.
We need your help to make this a success and bring a splash of color to the warehouse district of Raleigh, North Carolina.
WHAT?We are going to create a 200 foot long mural on the long-vacant
Dillon Supply Company building in Downtown Raleigh's warehouse district. With
transportation themed mural that covers the east and south facing
facades of the building, this block long venue will provide a lively,
welcoming backdrop for the development of the new Union Station,
adjacent to this property.
Here's what the building looks like now.
WHY COMMUNITY ART?
Involving local children, residents and artists, we see the Dillon project as a statement of how we move forward together as a community, sharing our vision for downtown development that enhances the quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors to Raleigh.
Here's what we want to create:
BEST, which stands for Beautifying Emerging Spaces Together, is a group of downtown Raleigh advocates and artists who aim to use vacant storefronts as a way to showcase the local art community. Triangle Transit, owner of the Dillon Supply Company building on South West Street is pleased to provide the setting for BEST to create the largest community-driven public art installation in Raleigh. The mural project is spearheaded by local artist Jason Craighead, with cooperation from many other artists.
No kidding! This is a huge space. It requires a lot of planning. The project will be done in multiple phases.
Funds from this project will help us buy and install the panels in Phase I of our mural construction. This includes the wood infrastructure behind the panels, the nails, and the panels themselves.
BEST Raleigh is raising $5,000 dollars to complete the funding of materials required for the Dillon Project in which we'll be joining other downtowners to create a 200 foot long mural on the long-vacant Dillon Supply Co building. We are grateful to the community and the City of Raleigh for their financial support thus far, as well as Jerry's Artarama for their in-kind donation of acrylics and spray paint. The money raised through Kickstarter is critical for the installation of the panels in Phase I of our mural construction. This includes the wood infrastructure behind the panels, the nails, and the panels themselves.
