The Return of the Conga

Patricio Hidalgo Belli is one of the great emerging poets of his generation.  A proficient and inspired versador y compositor.   His work to research the near lost form of the Conga in southern Veracruz has culminated in this amazing collection of new material captured in this amazing recording:  The Return of the Conga.

Upon arriving to Los Angeles in mid October of 2011, he was quick to get to work with Jacob Hernandez (marimbol) and Gabriel Tenorio (cinco sonero), both members of DomingoSiete and proprietors of Guadalupe Custom Strings.  Two weeks later, after several gigs and the addition of Alfred Ortiz (percussion) to the ensemble, the songs had evolved into the arrangements captured over two rainy nights in a Los Angeles Arts District Loft.   

This album project comes with the urgency of demand.  That is, this project will make its debut along with the CD at the Candelaria February 1 2012 in Tlacotalpan, Veracruz, Mex.  This long awaited album has already stirred a buzz among artists in Mexico and the USA.

This CD also features strong and heart rendering performances by Marisoul Hernandez of the Latin Grammy Nominated La Santa Cecilia.
