Update #18: Behind the Scenes: The Video
Hey 110 Friends,
Brian August suggested I write to y'all, as a number of questions have come in regarding how the videos for 110 Stories were shot.
When I set out to shoot the 100 Stories Kickstarter video, I quickly realized that the most infectious part of the project was Brian's personality and passion. True to what you might have heard, he had been obsessing about the concept for the app for months. And so, while it would have been possible that we simply showed the concepts and renderings, it was naturally much more compelling to share Brian's story, as storytelling is the real root of the app.
We got up on his rooftop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and just talked. We talked about his day, talked about his goals, and then, when he was relaxed, started talking about the app. I asked him to talk to me, and forget about the camera, hoping he would relax. It was remarkable to see this vertical slope in energy as we delved further and further into the application. The passion radiated, so capturing it was pie. We quickly went into the editing room and cut together the video in a few hours - then up it went!
For those interested in the in's and out's of the production, we filmed it on a Canon 7D with a EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens. The audio was recorded externally with an Audio Technica lavaliere microphone that was taped under his shirt (you can see it a bit in some of the shots) to help block out the wind on the roof. The audio was recorded on a H4N external audio recorder, and later synced using Plural Eyes. All of the post production, including the small amount of graphical work was done within Final Cut Pro.
Hope you all enjoyed the video. As someone invested in the project, I can't thank you all enough for your generous support! I'm sure we all can't wait for the app to launch.
Kind Regards,
@danieldelaney
Update #17: Attention Android Users -- The Android App is Coming!
Great news! The development team at i-Novation has joined the 110 Stories team, and is now feverishly developing the Android version of 110 Stories. Based in Germany, the folks at i-NOVATiON started developing apps for iOS and Android about three years ago and are now almost completely focused on the mobile market. Their team is doing an amazing job in creating an app that will provide maximum usability and functionality combined with a beauitiful interface design. There may even be a few surprises you don't see in other versions of the app! This has all been made possible with a little help from my friends at Google.

Connected as Brian August (1698 friends)
I'm fascinated by the fuzzy intersection of offline and online experiences. My days are spent explaining to people what live, collaborative multi-streaming is, and how they can use it. I created Webster Hall Digital, did some wild video installations and got to see amazing concerts. I developed Event Horizons, a gathering that explored how video, social tools and mobile technologies are integrated into live events.
I usually hide the fact that I'm a lawyer, but never hide the fact that I play in a Beatles tribute band (I'm Billy Preston). Three times now, I have performed the entire canon of 185 songs -- in succession. In case you're wondering, it takes about 14 hours.
