How Happy Are We?

Update #3 · Apr 6, 2012 · 1 comment

To our dear friends and backers,

GREAT NEWS:  Playwrights West's Kickstarter Campaign hit its tipping point today!  We now have over $5000 in pledges, thanks to your generosity!  We are simply over the moon.

If you're the commenting type, post on our site with your guess as to how happy you think we are!  Otherwise, sit back, relax, put your feet up, and know you've made a HUGE difference to some very grateful artists.

Thank you,

Us

Update #2 · Mar 17, 2012 · comment

Playwrights West members had an amazing opportunity come up this week.  A delegation of Iraqi women playwrights has been visiting the U.S. (NY, DC, and Portland!).  They asked to meet us, and yesterday we sat down with them in the Portland Center Stage conference room for a conversation.

With the help of a gifted translator, we talked about everything from censorship to money to the production of Mary Poppins they'd just seen on Broadway.  The conversation certainly brought home privileges we take for granted both as artists and as citizens.  But what was most striking was how similar our concerns are.  In some ways, what was most extraordinary was how ordinary it all was--a bunch of theatre people talking, joking, and asking questions about anything and everything.

We are hopeful of working out some kind of exchange with these playwrights--perhaps starting with readings in each country or the like.  We'll keep you posted!

In the meantime, our fundraising is going really well!  We're nearly 60% funded, thanks to our generous friends and backers.  Thank you so much from all of us!

You are truly making a huge difference to Playwrights West.  Thank you from the whole company!
