Hey there!
My name is Reggie Byers.
I've professionally created comic books since 1987, everything from ninja girls to ducks with dreadlocks that rap (LOL).
The comics I've created over the years were fun, entertained and astounded!
I am now compelled to create a book that has been on my heart for close to 10 years...a graphic novel about the One who has changed my life and the lives of literally billions of people, past and present: Jesus Christ.
"Jesus The Christ" is an 18 issue graphic novel series that I will debut in late August 2010.
I plan to produce and publish it on a bi-monthly schedule. Each issue will be full color, 32 pages with a $3.50 cover price.
At the conclusion of each 6 issue run, a compilation edition will be produce containing those 6 past issues including never before seen artwork and "behind the scenes" sketches and production art.
When the entire bi-monthly run has ended, a one volume edition will be produced which will be over 500 pages long, collecting the whole 3 year series in one beautiful package!
I am a full-time artist as a result of being laid off a year ago (EXACTLY THIS MONTH AS A MATTER OF FACT!). Since then, I have found absolutely no work, but have been able to help make ends meet by freelance illustrating. My being home each day will allow me time to design and illustrate this series without a "day job" impeding my creativity.
The $6,000 I'm asking for would go towards printing the first four issues, which will give the book enough "tar mat" to take off and be subsequently supported by sales after the second or third issue's release.
I have experience in self-publishing comic books as far back as 1990. I'm confident that my publishing expertise and knowledge of the comic book & online book markets will serve the series well.
Comic books have always been an incredible medium for conveying a message when "just fonts"
may not do for some audiences. I've relied on this form of expression since 1987 and I know that this undertaking will be my most important work.
I intend to portray Christ with a personality and plethora of emotions and so much so that the reader can actually relate to this rendition of Jesus. I want to show the disciples in all their strengths, weaknesses and stark differences.
Most of all, I believe that lives actually will be changed from experiencing a "comic book".
I believe reading this visual Gospel will cause the reader to be challenged, question their outlook on life, laugh out loud, be angered, be inspired, be motivated, and yes, even cry.
I believe a comic book can do that.
...and I truly believe that "Jesus The Christ" will do that as well.

not know Him, but will come to know Him in a beautiful and unique way.
