The Maestrosities are making a TV pilot featuring the band as you know and love them, getting into and maybe out of trouble.
NEWS FLASH: We are thrilled and delighted that so many people have pledged their support, allowing us to meet our goal early. We are looking forward to sharing our production with all of you!
If you have not given yet, no problem! We will gladly accept your donation as well, and put it to good use. Our crew has generously offered to work for a fraction of their usual rates, but we would love to be able to pay them more (and feed them better during the shoot.) Also, as Kickstarter novices we did not fully account for how much the rewards would cost us (oops!) so any extra donations will help offset those costs as well.
And again, to all who have given, and you who are about to give, we thank you!
In 2007, we Maestrosities started playing music on the stages of New York City. However, it never crossed our minds to be just a band. From our earliest performances, the players in the band were characters living in a special world of their own. We developed personal histories, hopes, dreams and relationships. Perhaps you were there when The Maestro ate the band's first birthday cake or when Louis fell in love with trumpeter Kiku Collins. Some will remember our infamous standoff against the Chinese army or the time Aldo's parole officer showed up and hauled him off to prison.
(note: We are sorry that Princess Penny is not in the above video. That was a Thursday and that's the day she polishes her tiaras. Do not worry! She will be quite present in the pilot episode.)
The Maestrosities on Tuesday.
The more developed a character is, the easier it is to write material for them. With characters as developed as the Maestrosities, the writing practically does itself. Ideas constantly fly around the room in every rehearsal. Our backlog of stories bulges and is about to explode. Like any lunatic, we have to do what the voices in our heads tell us.
The Pilot Episode Project.
The purpose of a pilot episode is to show the characters, ideas and feel of a proposed series. To that end, our pilot will feature the Maestrosities getting themselves into fine mess after fine mess. Each member of the band is highly motivated toward their own goals, but if you've seen them live, you know that the Maestrosities' goals rarely compliment each other. Inevitably, the band will become mired in its own ineptitude. Not to worry. They have the means to get out of anything. The Maestro can charm his way out. Louis will figure it out. In the end, Princess Penny may simply ask Aldo to throw them out. Chauncey will, well, be there.
The plan is to have the pilot done by the end of Summer. We'll have a pre-release screening party where backers will get to see it before the rest of the world.
Once the pilot is 'in the can', we will submit it to TV networks and pilot contests. Many networks, including Comedy Central and MTV get their new shows this way.
Past Work and Future Hopes.
Just to give you some idea of what we can do and why we need your help, here are a couple of the video projects we've done in the past. (Others can be seen here.) Some cost money. Others just took time. Between the first two videos, you can see what a huge difference some funding can make. The WFMU video cost about $50 to make. 'Set Me Free' cost about $5000. Low-budget productions can be fun, but they lack the polish and production value we need to get us to the next level. We hope we've inspired you to help us get there.

When are the shoot dates? (I pledged $300 so I get to be in the pilot. I assume this means I need to be there for the shoot.)
