Update #12: Updates about the documentary's broadcast
Dear Supporters,
We hope you are enjoying beautiful spring weather.
We have been preparing for broadcast of "Anna May Wong" documentary on PBS Plus with the Center for Asian American Media. We are happy to report that it will be broadcast during the March or May 2013 as to celebrate Anna May's story and accomplishments in the Women's History month and Asian American Heritage month 2013. We will post it again once we know the exact date!
Thanks again for your support to make it happens!!
With Regards,
Yunah Hong and William Smock
Update #11: Thank you!!
Dear supporters,
You did it!!!
It was 263 of you increasing your pledges that really made the difference -- the faithful supporters like you.
We have been moved by all the people who took up our cause, e-mailing, tweeting and calling for support. This was not like applying for a grant. It was like finding friends in all over the place.
We can't thank you enough. We Thank You from bottom of our hearts!
With Regards,
Yunah Hong and Bill Smock

Update #10: $17 is all we need
If every current backer goes up $17 we will hit the target!
I just posted a new reward: Raise your current pledge $17 or more and I will mail you an 8x10 Anna May Wong miniposter. (this includes all the people who have already raised their pledges – I am very grateful!)
Update #9: 24 hrs to go!
Dear Supporters,
Thank you so much for your pledge! We are very grateful for your support!!
As I write this, we have 225 backers, 81% pledged ($16,223), 1,464 people like the campaign in Facebook. We are still looking for the other 19% -- about $3,777 -- in less than 24 hours. As you might have noticed, we've tried everything, including courting celebrities like Hugh Hefner whom we heard support social issue documentaries. We thought that we could attract an angel...
I would like to ask you one big favor -- to increase your pledge by about $17, as Marie, one of supporters, suggested to me this morning. Those of you who already increased their pledges are exempted. I'm aware of all the favors you have shown to me and will try to return them someday.
Also, those of you who have a twitter account, please tweet the following message today:
Please help us to finish "Get Anna May Wong on Public TV." 24 hrs to go:

I sent a message on twitter to George Takei, asking him to retweet about this documentary. Don't know if he will, but if he does it'll hopefully find some more pledges.

Update #8: Angel Wings
Our frantic efforts have not produced a flood of pledges. With only three days left we need a few big donors.
A new reward (suggested by a backer) promises a “major donor” credit on public TV for pledges of $1000 or more. We have three so far. Spread the word!
A new $500 reward offers a school visit by Yunah Hong in the Greater New York area.
Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive. I’m optimistic!Yunah

Connected as Yunah Hong (310 friends)
Director Yunah Hong moved to New York from Korea to do graduate work. She first saw Anna May Wong in Josef von Sternberg’s "Shanghai Express" -- a beautiful, independent, gutsy Asian American woman unlike anyone Yunah Hong had ever met. The filmmaker embarked on an eight-year quest to find out what Anna May Wong was like as a person -- behind her cool movie image.
Yunah Hong has made eight films. All of them focus, in one way or another, on Asian American women. "Between the Lines: Asian American Women’s Poetry" is a one-hour documentary that weaves together autobiographies and readings by 16 poets. "Becoming an Actress in New York" follows three hopefuls as they trek to auditions, work with coaches, strive to be noticed in workshop productions and labor at day jobs. Yunah Hong has made several experimental films, including "Memory/all echo," based on the work of multimedia artist Theresa Hak Kyung Cha. This is her first shot at a national broadcast. Your modest contribution will have a big effect.
