Update #10: New video + retail window update

Posted on November 23, 2010

Hello Friends + Supporters_

We've posted a new video on our D.O.U.G.H. campaign home page, courtesy of the talented Liza of Food Curated. As of right now, $10 from 605 people in the next 17 days will get us to our goal. If you haven't already pledged, we'd be seriously appreciative if you re-join our cause.

AND since we're getting so many knocks on our door, we'll be opening our walk-up retail window:
(1069 Bedford Ave at Lexington Ave, Brooklyn)

Wednesday, November 24
12-5pm
We'll have a T-day bread menu, plus ready-made stuffing

Starting December 1
Wednesdays from 4-8pm

Come pick up a loaf!

Cheers,
SCRATCHteam

Update #9: Round 2: D.O.U.G.H. Campaign

Posted on October 26, 2010

Friends + Supporters_

So it took us a few weeks longer than we planned, but we've got a revamped Kickstarter campaign with some amped up rewards to share with you. We're telling the SCRATCHstory with a new, in-house video, and we're asking you to help us move forward with the equipment we need in order to get our loaves closer to you. This means a delivery vehicle, funds to fix our wood-burning oven, and tools for our interns to work with.

We were humbled by all the support we got this summer, and we really need a lot of good people--like you all--to make this happen on round two. So please check out our D.O.U.G.H. campaign, and of course, you know we'll be ridiculously grateful if you re-pledge.

Thanks!

Update #8: Humble Pie

Posted on September 2, 2010

I’m sitting in the SCRATCHshop, feeling grateful. Sure, I’ve got a little disappointment that we didn’t make our goal, but, more than anything, I’m thinking about you, our journey, and I’ve got to let you know…this isn’t over.

SCRATCHbread is one of the toughest and most driven ventures you will ever see. We’ve got grit, we’re scrappy, and we’re damn stubborn too. We’ve got soul, passion for what we do….we don’t wake up everyday to just pump out food for cash. We’re building SCRATCH slowly with you as the driver because we’ve got to know that this is what you want. We’ve got the mechanics covered, but we’re not going anywhere without your foot on the gas.

$10,000 ain’t no chump change. In fact, I’m floored by your support and your generosity: our goal was to receive more smaller donations rather than a few large ones, and with 100 supporters so far, I’d say we’ve started to build a decent rally.

So we’re going to re_launch this thing and finish it right.

In about 10 days, we’ll have a new campaign, a clearer message, and a serious plan to make this happen. If you know anything about me and the team that is SCRATCHbread, we don’t fail--we always get back up and make it happen.

Consider this round 1. I hope you’ll join us again and re_pledge for the final push because we need you by our side, we really can’t do this without you.

Cheers to you, and cheers to our food culture--

Matthew J. Tilden

Update #7: The Report: SCRATCHgathering + open shop

Posted on September 1, 2010

To all those who stopped by our new digs on Sunday: you’re awesome and thanks for coming out! We showed you the space and what we still need—the ventilation system for the wood burning oven is a thorn in our side—and also that we’ve got some delicious toast tricks up our sleeve. We brought in about $400 between sales from bread loaves and the toast bites, plus some small donations.

As satisfying as it was to watch you get your fingers into a savory muffin stuffed with Mexican corn and be won over by a griddled chai sticky bun, we can’t really operate this retail window without more help from our friends, fans and all you happy eaters…it’s a good part of the reason we’re doing this campaign, so please pass the word along!

Update #6: Gathering at the SCRATCHshop | Sunday, Aug 29

Posted on August 25, 2010

Friends, Fans, Supporters, Good People...

We say come on over this Sunday and raise a glass at our amazing new (almost complete) food workshop. We’re breaking some bread and previewing tasty bites from SCRATCHbread’s hot toast menu at our walk-up retail window (toasted stuffed savory muffins, griddled chai sticky buns, and other morsels of deliciousness). We’ll have Brooklyn Soda Works’ latest seasonal soda on tap, wine courtesy of Chestnut restaurant and Dandelion Wines, and work some super local produce from BK Farmyards into the mix.

We’d be tickled to see you, and spread the word!

Update #5: Bread in Bed-Stuy

Posted on August 23, 2010

Just in case you haven’t heard: we’ll be opening our retail walk-up window at our new space in Bed Stuy for limited hours in the middle of this week. With your help, we’re working hard at building SCRATCHbread from something still very close to 'scratch’, but since we’re putting down roots in this neighborhood, we want to prove that our reputation is meant to be chewed.

We’re keeping this walk-up window on the down-low, so if you want the low-down on the spot, schedule and our delicious offerings, you’ve got to follow us on Twitter or Facebook …we won’t be posting this info anywhere else.

SO > keep an eye on us and tell your friends what's up with SCRATCH... more to come soon.

Update #4: Pics from the Pie-in

I am hoping hoping hoping you make your goal. I did hook up with you with a pledge and also put the word out on Facebook. Can't make it to the flea market though, but I would really like to. I am way out in California but feel your passion for baking all the way from here.
Have fun with your photo and I hope the world hears you!!!

Update #2: You're all awesome

Posted on August 12, 2010

I really appreciate the love, we're gonna start having a little fun with this, because we just can't fail.

We have a generous amount of your support so far, I know it ain't easy investing into something, but I promise you, with every bite you will be happy you did. So please pass the word.

We have added another reward for the home cook, we know we're more locally based, so I've decided to mail myself into your home, where ever you are, and I guarantee I can teach you how to make the most delicious focaccia you've ever tasted.

SCRATCHbread really needs a rally…

So we’ve decided to up the ante since Kickstarter says we don’t get a penny if we can’t reach our goal. And we really need better ventilation and refrigeration systems to get this business rolling.

> INSTANT REWARD!

Pledge $40 or more in the next two weeks and come get free bread at the BK Flea!

> NEW HOOK-UP: SCRATCHbaker plan

$40 pledge

Home making bread kit. Complete focaccia kit to make at home, an instructional video, step-by-step instructions and even the founder’s personal cell phone number to make sure you get it right.

PLUS! one person who donates $40 or more will be entered into a drawing to win a gigantic morning amuse basket loaded with enough goods to feed an army for brunch! (will send if not local)

> AND Pie! (in the Park) Sunday, August 15

The amazing Lauren has generously decided to donate the proceeds from this year’s Pie in the Park (we’re really flattered), so come show some support, bake some pie, eat some pie, and smother pie all over ourselves… or… er. maybe just smell the pie? Details Here

Update #1: momentum

Posted on July 27, 2010

So we've landed on a few great sites:

Village Voice laid it out;

NYeater.com gave some luv,
http://ny.eater.com/archives/2010/07/scratchbread.php

And the Brooklyn driven awesome Brooklyn Based gave a great piece and included us in the mix:
http://brooklynbased.net/everything/kitchens-quest/

Thanks to all the supporters so far... $2,500 ain't no chump change... And I can feel the momentum building.

Please keep spreading the word, and if you can't give 5 bucks, we understand. The more people that see the campaign though, the more likely we'll be to reach our goal...

thanks to everyone... You rock.

YES! It is all about making food with love and integrity. We pledged some funds today and are keeping our collective fingers crossed for you to make your stated fund raising goal! Bonnie

Hey, we're SCRATCHbread. Our intentions are basically to enhance a common set of ideals shared through food. This means food that is approachable yet sophisticated, plain and simple, and most importantly, absolutely delicious. Yes, we make the goods, but this company is about every single person that supports the ideals and energy of SCRATCH. We just happen to help the thing bounce a bit.

There is only one thing, however, that we can really guarantee with words about SCRATCH… Because the whole point of SCRATCH is that the proof is in the pudding… The guarantee is that once you’ve tried SCRATCH, every time you see, hear & taste something from SCRATCH, you’ll always know it was made from SCRATCH.
