If you're wondering why we’re here, we just want to share a little about us with you. We just think we’ve got somethin we think we can all relate to…
We are all SCRATCHbread - you, me, your neighbor, we all make this collective food brand.
We’re not breaking the mold here, we’re just bringing business back a little more into your hands, literally… We’ve decided to share our love for delicious, wholesome, crusty breads and awesome foods with you because this is something we think should already be around. What we do isn't new, it ain’t wrapped in a fancy bow, or topped with a chocolate caramel bacon salt foam.
But what we’ve got is some soul. It’s in the form of a crusty, sour, ridiculously satisfying loaf of bread, a chai sticky bun that leaves you licking your fingers, or even a modest piece of toast. We just think delicious should be the standard… processed crap needs to take a permanent nap, flavorless ingredients need to be challenged…
We’ve always wanted SCRATCHbread to make it because you share these ideals and you want us around. We love making you happy with delicious wholesome goodness, and seeing what we’ve made bring a little more enjoyment to your life... You inspire us…
We need a rally because we’re trying to grow a business in one of the hardest places in the world to make it.
We’ve made it this far with a lot of hard work, sure, but it's cash that's kept us from moving forward… it's frustrating...
So we need a little help to keep this thing movin.
Why kickstarter?
Because we need cash to bring more fresh breads closer to you;
We want to offer wholesale prices out of our walk up window;
Offer youth skill-building workshops;
Reach out to those who are changing careers or want to improve their home cooking skills
In order to do this, we need to upgrade our existing equipment--we just can't make any more loaves with the stuff we've got:
a new oven = $3,000
another refrigerator = $2,500
mixer = $3,000
worktables = $1,000
pans, bowls, + misc. baking tools = $500
We want the funds to come from our family of supporters, not just anybody... We want you to decide the fate of SCRATCHbread, have a stake in its future, and be part of building something we can all enjoy, every single day.
We've just got our home secured for the next five years, and we want to dig into Bed Stuy, offer wholesale priced bread to our Brooklyn neighborhood, and open our shop as a collective community resource and a serious business with sustained growth... We think both can be accomplished at the same time.... And with you as the focus.
Help us grow an ideal through one Brooklyn community, and I guarantee you will eventually be chewing on our D.O.U.G.H. (Delicious, cOmmunity, Urban-made, Goodness, Happening-now)
It maybe just bread. But to us, it brings so many more things to the table. We know we can build community with hard work, focused goals and a humble belief in the power of a loaf of bread, made by hand.

Hey, we're SCRATCHbread. Our intentions are basically to enhance a common set of ideals shared through food. This means food that is approachable yet sophisticated, plain and simple, and most importantly, absolutely delicious. Yes, we make the goods, but this company is about every single person that supports the ideals and energy of SCRATCH. We just happen to help the thing bounce a bit.
There is only one thing, however, that we can really guarantee with words about SCRATCH… Because the whole point of SCRATCH is that the proof is in the pudding… The guarantee is that once you’ve tried SCRATCH, every time you see, hear & taste something from SCRATCH, you’ll always know it was made from SCRATCH.
