Lake Effect is an exploration of grief and how our relationships are forever imbued with the memory of passed loved ones.
What is Lake Effect?
Lake Effect is an upcoming fifteen-minute short drama produced by SHEP Films.
What is it about?
For the first time, Alex is bringing his girlfriend, Julia, to the lake where his daughter recently drowned. What begins as a ceremonial moment for the couple turns into an exploration of how the mind is forever imbued with the memory of passed loved ones. With poignancy and vivid dialogue, Lake Effect captures the inner recesses of the grieving mind, expressing the beautiful, mysterious, and violent associations that come with mourning, and explores what it means to share the pangs of grief in a relationship.
Who is Behind Lake Effect?
Lake Effect is written by Michael Chadwick, co-directed by Zeek Earl and Michael Chadwick, and produced by SHEP Films.
SHEP Films is a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) signatory company, and has produced numerous video branding spots, music videos, and commercial features for companies including Becks, Klondike, Go Daddy, and Cocoa-Cola. Their most recent short film, In The Pines, is currently in post-production and will be screening at festivals throughout 2012.

When and Where is Lake Effect Being Filmed?
Lake Effect will be shot in early December 2011 on location in the greater Phoenix area.
Why is Lake Effect Using Kickstarter?
Kickstarter hosts Lake Effect so that any individual who visits the site has access to learning about the movie and making a financial contribution. It also provides you with a safe and secure way to fund Lake Effect.
By selecting the big green button, “Back This Project” at the top right of the screen, you can contribute any amount you wish and Kickstarter will securely hold on to your pledge until our minimum funding goal is reached.
If we don’t reach our funding goal, you keep your money. Kickstarter retains 5% of the total funding amount for each successful project, and we think it’s a fair compensation since the site provides the best online opportunity for funding Lake Effect.
How is the money spent?
All costs are going toward pre-production and production expenses:
50% Equipment rental and insurance (camera, lenses, sound, etc.)
30% casting, hosting auditions, hiring professional actors and paying Screen Actors Guild union fees
10% Transportation and accommodation for cast and crew
10% Food, clothing, make-up, and additional production costs
Can More than $8,000 be Pledged?
Of course! While Kickstarter retains 5% of the total funding, there is no limit to how much Lake Effect can raise. The listed funding goal is our minimum production budget. Funding beyond the goal will help us rent higher quality equipment and further help cover the expenses that come with submitting to numerous film festivals.
Why Should I Support Lake Effect?
With your support you will help us make a professional quality short film that we can be proud of and confidently submit to film festivals worldwide throughout 2012 and early 2013. Acceptance into premier festivals is essential for networking with seasoned individuals in the film industry, and we hope Lake Effect can provide us new opportunities in our continued aspiration towards establishing careers in filmmaking.
Your investment creates an artistic opportunity for Michael Chadwick and SHEP Films that we cannot create on our own. Your support gives us a chance to showcase our talent, our imagination, and our vision for what makes a great film.
