THE CONCEPT 

I wanted to come up with a way to release new music on a regular and recurring basis in this iTunes and buy-one-song-instead-of-an-album world that we live in. I also wanted to be different in the way I went about it so that my fans could have early access to the songs and so that I could also effectively pitch my music to blogs and radio.

So, I have come up with THE 45 PROJECT, an ongoing series of TWO NEW SONGS, or "Digital 45s", released every four months beginning in January 2013. The journey begins, however, this September when my band and I enter the studio to start the recording process!

A "DIGITAL 45" 

For several decades before this one, record companies released radio singles on 45rpm vinyl records with one song on each side. The "A side" would be the song suggested for airplay but often DJ's would opt for the second song, or the "B-side."

These days most of us do not have a turntable and so the 45 Project will be an ongoing series of "digital 45s" each with its own A and B-side offerings.

THE FIRST A-SIDE

Shot in the Dark, a song that many of you have heard me play at my shows this year, will be the first song out of the gate on this project. Shot in the Dark will be the first "A-side" because this song encompasses the spiritual space I have been living in for the past year and a half and where I will likely be living in some capacity for as long as I live. I have had many people tell me that they live in this same space as well - the space where dreams, reality, energy, and potential collide on a daily basis. Put simply, Shot in the Dark is my anthem. 

Here is a journal entry of mine from last year about the song: 

My favorite song is a new one that I just finished called “Shot in the Dark” - that nobody online has heard yet - it has only been played at my last two shows…. but it’s my favorite because its just a big rock n roll tune about how everything you want can seem so far off -  and how everything that is worthwhile requires so much work just to get there - but that in the end (AND in the journey) you really realize how you couldn’t have lived doing anything else.

So, Shot in the Dark will be the first song of the 45 Project series. Other songs to come include Never Like This Before, If You Say Yes (The Proposal Song), Conqueror, You're Leaving Me, and more. 

IT ALL STARTS NOW

This September my band and I will hunker down in a studio in Stone Mountain, Georgia with producer Rick Beato (Needtobreathe, Crowfield, and Shinedown) to begin the recording process! This Kickstarter project will finance the studio time, mixing, mastering, and distribution of the 45 Project songs. Anything raised over our target will help with more widespread promotion of the songs to radio. I am excited to have my band recording these songs with me! Here's the lineup (I LOVE THESE GUYS!):
