An ex-collegiate track runner must decide between coaching an elite athlete or saving a derelict track program.
GOAL REACHED! But We're Going to Keep Running!
A warm thank you to those who have contributed to 400. I look forward to the final days of this project where I get to send goods to all of you.
As pre-production continues the Kickstarter for 400 will remain open for the through mid-September. We will continue to accrue funds to make the best movie possible! Continue to spread the word. The goal is made, but every dollar over will help complete our vision! The race isn't over yet.
Thank you so much to those who have helped and keep running with us!

"Life is often compared to a marathon, but I think it is more like being a sprinter, long stretches of hard work punctuated by brief moments in which we are given the opportunity to perform at our best." - Michael Johnson, 400 Meter World Record Holder
After a career-ending injury, Jack leaves his collegiate status as an elite 400 meter runner to coach high school track and field. He teams with his friend, Gary, to coach a seemingly talentless program headed by the apathetic Coach Bullock.
However, there's one elite runner that catches his eye--a young lady who can sprint the 400 as powerfully as he once did. But Jack will have to let her pursue her career without him if he's to right Bullock's wrongs. Does he follow her to gold medal status? Or does he stand by Gary to save a track program in need of a leader?
As an athlete, a coach, and a filmmaker, G.J. Hudgens has been searching for the right story that combines his passions. Mary Beecroft was able to help with a story that remained true to these passions yet was still accessible to viewers unfamiliar with the inside world of track and field.
The idea was to create characters pushed to decide between what they desire to do and what they know is the right thing to do. The answer can come to people in many forms, but for Jack it all went back to how he ran his races. The 400-meter was his life, and now it's become the template for his life. The question is will he follow that template.
- Director: G.J. Hudgens--Film student, track coach at a local high school, and former collegiate athlete.
- Writer: Mary Beecroft--Bachelor's degree in English with a focus in Creative Writing.
- Cinematographer: Josh Golden--Film student with a focus in Cinematography.
- Producer: Ryne Driscoll--Film student with a focus in Screenwriting and Directing.
- Assistant Director: Annie Miller--Music video director for local bands.
- COSTUMES/SET DESIGN: As a sports movie, this film will require gear typically associated with the sport. Although track and field usually doesn't require a lot of gear, jerseys, running shoes, and compression shorts will nevertheless be needed to dress the runners. Some interior sets will need to be heavily decorated as well.
- PERMITS: These will be needed to shoot at different tracks. Some only require permission; others require a fee.
- EQUIPMENT: Extensive shooting equipment to capture the races depicted in the script will be needed. We will be using motorized carts for many shots. A generator will be needed to light exterior night scenes.
We hope to shoot late September/early October.
*Please understand that $900 is our budget's bare minimum. Anything surpassing this would only help us further achieve our goal--to create the film exactly as perceived.
Your pledges will help us achieve the endgame of creating an enjoyable and inspiring movie. Thank you for your help.
