Kickstarter

This is pretty simple:  We're the booster club for Durant High School's Thespian Troupe 5444, located in Plant City, Florida.  During the course of the school year, the high school provides minimal funding for the students to put on approximately three shows, and we usually help fund a fourth, and so during a normal school year, four shows are produced by the troupe.

This year, for the first time ever, we wanted to produce five shows, not the usual four.  We specifically chose this show in order to have it be adjudicated and placed into possible state competition during the Florida State Thespian State competition which will be held in the Spring of 2013.  It's a small show, one that should mesh well with our (very) limited resources--"The Marvelous Wonderettes," by Roger Bean.

"The Marvelous Wonderettes takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts! As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing such classic ‘50s and ‘60s songs as “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick On Your Collar,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” “It’s My Party” and over 20 other classic hits! You’ve never had this much fun at a prom and you will never forget The Marvelous Wonderettes—a must-take musical trip down memory lane!"

The four principal players have already been cast, and a student director has already been chosen, and the show has already been tentatively scheduled on Durant High School's calendar for September 13/14, 2012!.  To put this play on will require approximately $3,300--most of which will go towards purchasing the rights to perform the play itself.  A small portion will be used for costumes and production costs.  Every last bit of the $3,300 will be spent directly on the play, the production itself, or the small Kickstarter fees we are required to pay as part of using this website. 

If there are any funds raised in excess of $3,300, those funds will be used to directly subsidize the cost of sending the students to the Florida State Thespian competition next Spring (i.e., food and lodging for the students), so please feel free to continue to contribute even after we've reached our goal!
