About this project
While I was in Grand Rapids MI last year for ArtPrize 2010, I was inspired to create an exhibit for the Blue Pedestrian Bridge right in the heart of downtown. I knew the ideal exhibit would involve something hanging from the beams & girders. Suspended artwork is usually out of my realm of work as all of my sculptures to date are secured to the ground, but hanging monkeys seemed like a logical answer and I am looking forward to arriving in Grand Rapids with all 100 of them.
The money raised through Kickstarter will be used two-fold. It will help to fund my trip to Grand Rapids for ArtPrize 2011 & the costs associatied with installing the monkeys on the bridge. The subsequent sales of monkeys going forward will be used as the intial investment money for my future 2012 ArtPrize exhibit that I have already conceptualized. It is an even larger exhibit than this years and has a profound & powerful message that I am proud to assist with raising awarenss on ( I can't give away too much information on this at this time), but backers may get a glimpse of it very soon !
Please see my website to get a larger picture of my 2011 ArtPrize exhibit, Metal Monkey Mania as well as last years exhibit (The Big Dog Show). Both years we have partnered with the Western Michigan Humane Society, this year with a goal to assist them in raising $100,000. The 2 keychains offered to my backers are replicas of the sculptures used in both of these exhibits. The picture below shows my son with a monkey & while we definitely don't advise or recommend hanging or swinging on them, I have put it here just to help you understand the scale and size of it.

The picture below is of the upside down monkey. Upside down monkeys are limited in quantity !

We are out in Grand Rapids and installing as quick as we can. I still have some more to go, very excited to be here & be a a part of this amazing event.

-
They are for sale & we hope to use the money raised by their sale to fund an even larger exhibit for ArtPrize next year.
