Hey everyone. You're probably wondering about this whole Camp Charlie and Charlie the Unicorn thing. Here's my take on it.
2011 was my first year attending Burning Man. Ken and the Camp Charlie crew took me on like I was family, taking care of a newbie's orientation to one of the greatest spectacles on earth. Thanks to them, my experience at Burning Man was profound and life-changing. We brought incredible music to the playa. We brought love to the playa. We brought Charlie the fucking Unicorn to the playa. And we fucking destroyed it out there.
At the end of the day, we'll be driving a truck loaded with lights and speakers around a desert in the middle of nowhere, delighting and awing thousands of people with humor and love. And while this may sound like hippie-dippie bullshit, experiences like this can be life-changing. This does good in the world.
Also, there were so many people dancing on the truck last year that we almost destroyed the suspension. That's a fucking party.
I donated nearly $1,500 last year in cash and in-kind contributions (lasers and DMX boards and all that stuff). Every single last cent was put to good use. I'm a little strapped for cash this year, so I'll be getting to the playa two days early and staying two days later to help do whatever little humble things I can do to help Charlie delight and inspire people, whether it's sewing velcro to fabric or packing her up exhausted after a long week of rocking out, learning, and growing. This may just be an "art car" but there's a lot of love, good intention, and incredible execution behind it.
I'm honored to have a hand in this. Please help by putting a few dollars in. It will go further than you can imagine.
