As many of you know, we've spent the last few months putting the finishing touches on our upcoming film, Aatsinki: The Story of Arctic Cowboys – but that’s not the only thing that has been keeping us busy. Thanks to the hard work of our creative technologist team, Mike Knowlton and Hal Siegel of Murmur, we are thrilled to announce that we have just launched the first installment of the film's online interactive companion, called The Aatsinki Season!
The Aatsinki Season brings you, the participant, face to face with the challenges of being a reindeer herder in Finnish Lapland. What kind of herder would you be, and how would you manage your reindeer and the land? The Aatsinki Season will highlight how the seemingly distant difficulties of the herding lifestyle are, in fact, the same struggles faced by agricultural communities around the world, all while providing opportunities for you to take action and help families like the Aatsinkis, both in Finland and around the world.
As its name implies, episodes of The Aatsinki Season will be released in seasonal installments over the course of the coming year, coordinated to coincide with the most important events of the herding schedule. As the story unfolds, we hope it will challenge your assumptions about technology, food production, and, most critically, man’s place in nature.
We’re looking forward to hearing what you think!
