The Girls on Liberty Street is an independent feature film about a girl who decides it is worth risking her life to get out of her hometown.

THE STORY

The Girls on Liberty Street tells the story of eighteen year-old BRIANNA.  Her grades weren't the best, her parents can't afford community college, and there are no jobs in her town.  So, on a whim, she joins the Army.  After she enlists, Brianna has only seven short days to make sure she sets things straight before leaving. During that time she prepares her mom for losing her "third parent" to the younger siblings: a brother starting to hang out with the wrong crowd and a sister afraid Brianna will get killed.  She also desperately tries to hold onto a boyfriend clearly trying to break up with her.  On top of that, she finally tries to reconcile with her estranged best friend.  They haven't spoken for months but Brianna wants to set things straight before she leaves because, for all she knows, she may never come back.

WHO WE ARE

This is the second feature film for Writer/Producer/Director John Rangel.  His first feature, south loop, screened in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle and is currently available on DVD.  His last short film, An Assignment, won a number of awards and aired on the Showtime and SiTV networks.

Producer Alex Lechuga is an Emmy-winning Producer and Editor for the Telemundo Network.

Producer David Rokos worked with John on south loop as a Sound Designer and also produces promotional and marketing videos.

Producer Brian Mihalik’s last short film “Mi Intercambio” was an Official Selection of the 2011 Chicago International Reel Shorts Film Festival and he recently produced training videos for the Portillo’s restaurant chain.

WHERE THINGS STAND

The budget for our movie is $20,000.  However, we only need $12,000 to shoot the movie and we have already raised $2,000.  That brings us to our goal of $10,000.

Everything else is moving along – we have locked down some of our locations, we’re rounding out the cast, and we have all of our equipment lined up.  Basically, we’ve moved as far as we can without the rest of our budget.

WHERE THE MONEY GOES

With your contribution we will be able to pay and feed our cast and crew, purchase production elements such as costumes and props, and cover other basic production necessities (production insurance, printing, etc.). 

WE NEED YOUR HELP

When you contribute to our movie, you don’t just give us money. You become part of the community that it takes to make a movie like The Girls on Liberty Street.  Through updates and emails you’ll be given an inside look into the making of our movie.  We’ll also keep you informed as we try to get the movie screened around the world through film festivals, private and public screenings, or any other way we can get our movie to an audience.
