Shelley Mitchell is driven by a love of dramatic art and transcendence. Her critically acclaimed performance of Talking with Angels is evidence of this life long passion to weave the two together.
During the 1970s she cut her teeth as a performer in NYC at the Circle in the Square theater school where she studied with Oscar winners Estelle Parsons, Ellen Burstyn and Irene Papas. Shelley went on to train with the legendary acting coach Lee Strasberg in his private class and at the Actors Studio. During this period, she appeared professionally in a string of off-off-Broadway performances, TV commercials and soap operas. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University.
Shelley spent the 1980s living off the grid in Venice, Italy studying the ideas of G.I. Gurdjieff and P.D. Ouspensky. When she returned to the States in 1992 she turned her attention to the great reservoir of Native American philosophy and spirituality. Both influences are highly visible in her approach to dramatic art.
Shelley is one of the premiere drama coaches on the West Coast and teaches film and theater acting at her studio in the Mission district of San Francisco. In a profession where academic degrees can actually be a buzz kill her work is recognized and recommended by Harvey Keitel, Rita Moreno, Eamonn Walker, Jill Eikenberry, James Lipton and Sean Penn.
And thanks to everyone who has made the first 10 day of our Kickstarter campaign so successful!
