About this project
Our Leading Lady takes place in 1865. The Civil War is over and famed theatrical manager Laura Keane is conniving her way into becoming the first female manager of Ford's Theatre. Her company is currently feautured in the hit comedy Our American Cousin and, through her connections, she has made certain that President Abraham Lincoln will be in attendence at the closing performance.. However, as the big night approaches, fate deals her a tragic blow.
Both poignant and hilarious, Our Leading Lady examines the role that theatrical artists play in the national context. It also tells the fascinating story of an ambitious and passionate woman who was destined to become history's greatest footnote.
Project 891 Theatre Company has been eyeing this script for years and are pleased that we are able to open our 3rd season with this ambitious and timely show. The funds raised will help cover the expensive costumes and scenery needed to do this show justice.

Project 891 Theatre Company is a theatre company in Chicago that focuses on lesser-known and "undiscovered"plays. Project 891 was the name given to the Federal Theatre Project's New York unit which saw the production of some of the most groundbreaking and innovative theatrical events of the 1930's including the "Voodoo" Macbeth, Dr Faustus and The Cradle Will Rock.
It is in this same spirit that we "throw our hat into the ring" with a new theatrical endeavor
