About this project

Circle Takes the Square have launched this Kickstarter campaign to generate the funds needed to complete the recording process, and cover the costs of manufacturing their forthcoming collection of songs, entitled DECOMPOSITIONS, Volume I.

The process of manifesting these songs has been an extended labor of love, and we want to honor them to the best of our ability by making sure their documentation, and their physical presentation reflect the amount of time we put into creating them.

We cannot overstate the energizing effect of all the words of encouragement from our fans and friends who have so generously voiced their enthusiasm while waiting patiently for our newest musical offering. We appreciate it beyond words.

We also realize that times are tough, and it is not our intention to divert funding from any of the many urgent humanitarian causes that are in dire need of support at the moment. We encourage those in a position to donate to please consider all of your options and to donate responsibly.

That said, our campaign is simply a way for us to enable those who feel compelled to help us realize our unique vision. We are excited to share a select number of CTTS-related goods in exchange for donations, so please check out the list of items available.

Thanks again to all of you who are as excited for Decompositions as we are!

About Decompositions Vol 1:

From the very beginning of the writing process, our mission statement was to comprehensively explore the musical themes that we were creating. We set out to build upon the stylistic foundation we had established with As The Roots Undo, but were determined to provide ourselves with the room to experiment, and try our hands at more repetition, variation and management of space in ways we hadn't attempted before. We decided not to let song-length or other logistical limitations inhibit the sprawling arrangements we were crafting, and ventured to grant each individual idea within our multi-movement songs its own chance to meander and evolve: sometimes in linear ways, and sometimes within the framework of more traditional progressions. Our emphasis on fine-tuning, experimenting with, and expanding our approach to song structure enabled the creation of the three fully-arcing, musical story-lines that will make up Decompositions Volume I (which has a running time of 50-plus minutes).

In 2004, Savannah based experimental post-hardcore group Circle Takes the Square turned the scene on its ear with the release of their critically heralded, ferocious debut full-length, As the Roots Undo; Seven years later, the band has made their long-awaited return to the studio to record their highly anticipated follow-up, Decompositions Volume 1, which they will self-release this fall on their newly formed label Gatepost Recordings.
