I am a potter who lives in SE Oklahoma. Currently I am attending Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas. I will be graduating with my BFA in Studio Arts with a concentration in ceramics in December, 2012 just a few months shy of my 70th birthday.
I make custom hand made pottery. Each piece is unique, no two are exactly alike. When I make something I like to think about the person I am making the piece for. It gives me a warm, wonderful feeling to know that something I have made with my own two hands will be used by others in their everyday lives. There is such a unique connection between the potter and the person who utilizes the pottery. Each piece connects the maker to the user. Each time you use your hand made pottery in your own home, you are interacting with the sincerity and soul of the artisan who created it.
I believe that Kickstarter is a great way to showcase my art and my pottery and to raise awareness about using hand made functional items for everyday use. The funds that are collected here will be used to offset the cost of the clay, glazes and firings that will be used in making the reward items. In addition to the bowl rewards I have also added a couple of smaller rewards such as the tatted earrings and the pen and ink miniatures, and the ever popular coffee cup. At the other end of the reward spectrum I have added a large 3 foot high water fountain sculpted from stoneware bowls complete with pumping system. I hope you will enjoy these rewards as much as I have enjoyed making them for you.

The challenge of any project involving pottery is to complete the project in a timely manner. The very nature of the ceramic process is fraught with delays. The clay must be worked at specific stages and let dry before it can be fired the first time..then glazed and re-fired a second or sometimes even 3rd or 4th time depending on the glazes and the desired effects which are sought after. These firings are scheduled by the university so sometimes there is a long period between firings. The risks are that pieces will crack during some part of the completion process and then the whole process has to be redone. There is also a risk of breakage in shipping, even though I will make every effort to pack them as securely as possible.
