Update #7: We didn't go over the falls

Posted on November 12, 2011

Dear Friends,

You are probably wondering what happened to the Niagara Falling Book. We apologize for the silence. We've been working diligently and the project is alive and well. We are putting the finishing touches on the printed version and also an ePub version.  It's taken a lot longer than we anticipated when we began the project last Fall. We are hopeful you will like what we have created.

A few of the things that extended the schedule were the essays we added. It took longer to get these from the writers we invited. All of them had busy schedules.  We also decided we wanted to create a documentary like film about Niagara Falls. This not part of the book project but we wanted to include a trailer in the ePub version of the book. Unlike most documentaries that look at what has happened in the past, this film will looks toward the future. For lack of a better term we're calling it a "Visumentary"  So this summer we wrote a short script and created a trailer for the project. We had the good fortune to have Peter Coyote do the voice over for it. This short trailer and 6 other short films will become part of the ePub book that will be offered on the Apple iTunes Store. We are also planing a Kindle version as well. At this time Kindle version will not contain as many films. (We've heard they are working on a new Kindle that will be able to handle video in a better way)

Here is our plan. We are sending the final print version of book to the printer by the end of November and hope to have a first proof by mid December. Once we approve this we expect to have printed books by early January.

The ePub version goes to the folks who do all of our conversion work on December 5th and we hope to have that back by the end of December. It usually take a few weeks for Apple and Kindle to approve the eBooks so we are anticipating they will be on line by early January.

As a way of saying thank you for your patience we would like to offer everyone who contributed to the project an ePub version of the book at no charge. When it's complete we will send you an a URL where you will be able to download the book for either the iPad or the Kindle.

Again we greatly appreciate your support for our project.

Update #5: Niagara Falling update 3.23.11

Posted on March 23, 2011

We are making good progress on the Niagara Falling book project.  The Table of content is complete. We have the graphic layout almost finished and have sorted though hundreds of images and have narrowed them down considerably. We have 3 of the 4 essays complete that will be included in the book. We hope to have the fourth by the end of April.  We are still editing the video we want to put in the epub version of the book.  Things are taking slightly longer than planned but for good reason. I feel we will have wonderful end product when we are done.

We will keep you informed as we continue make progress.

Warmly,

David + Hi-Jin
