Update #4: You made it happen!
Dearest supporters,
We just got home and collapsed after the most amazing day of our lives. All these months of hard work came together and we made something really special. But none of this would have happened without your support--yeah, financial, but mostly moral. Your eagerness to help us out helped us feel sure that we were doing something that people needed and wanted.
So thank you very much and we'll keep you posted about your sweet, sweet rewards!
Love,
The L.A. Zine Fest Team
Update #3: 6 Days To Go!
We are gearing up for the Fest this Sunday and wanted to show you some of the amazing things we have been able to do with your support!
This Fest has been an opportunity to bring together our friends and people in the community who are creating some truly amazing art, music and zines. Nature Show is a production company, started by an old friend of this here organizer, whose founders offered to put together a dynamic promo video for the Fest. Your donation made this video possible (and fed the bellies of the amazing actors and crew who helped out)! If you haven't seen it yet, prepare to be amazed.
The video below was put together by another good friend and participant at the D.I.Y panel discussion, Sean Carnage. His support for the fest and the underground arts community in L.A. is truly inspiring!
We are also happy to announce that we've secured a bike valet! Encourage your friends to ride downtown to the Fest - and that bike will be parked for FREE!
Finally, if you know anyone who might still want to donate - it's not too late. We've anticipated a lot of our expenses, but things do and will come up. All the money goes directly towards making the Fest possible.
SEE YOU THERE IF YOU CAN!
-Rhea, Simon, Meredith, Eryca & Bianca
Update #2: Funded! But Wait! There's More....
****THANK YOU SO MUCH****
From the bottom of our ziney little hearts, we want to let you know how excited and thankful we are for all of the support our project has gotten. From $1 to $500 pledges, it really all helps in so many ways to create the event we've been dreaming of.
Wondering if you can still donate? But of course! There is a list of things we'd love to provide, if we can afford it, including; an on-site bicycle valet service, compensating someone to video document the speakers, panel discussions and zinesters at the Fest, screen printed tote bags, and official walkie talkies so the organizers can communicate in lightning speed and stay super legit. :-)
Last but definitely not least, keep spreading the word! The best way that we can show our gratitude is by getting as many people as we can to see and support the zine makers, writers, artists and speakers at L.A. Zine Fest on February 19th.
We hope to see you there!
Update #1: One Week In!
Hello Everyone! It's been just about a week since we launched our Kickstarter and the amount of initial support has amazed us! Plans for a Fest started when the 5 of us got together and realized that we weren't the only ones waiting for L.A. to have an event that celebrates Zine culture. We know that there's a lot of you out there who create your own zines or have been influenced by them. Perhaps you are only now finding out what the term actually means. THAT makes us happy too!
We've updated our description to include more details of what your contributions are helping to pay for. We've also added some goodies to the $200 donation level. Not only will you get delicious homemade ice cream or sorbet & a t-shirt, but you'll also receive a pair of truly one of a kind hand illustrated Converse from L.A Zine Fest poster artist Champoy Hate!

Thanks again for all your support - keep spreading the word!!

Connected as Rhea Tepplim (449 friends)
L.A. Zine Fest 2012 is organized by a group of zine-enthusiasts dedicated to promoting zine culture as a means to connect the pre-exisiting communities in L.A.– artistic or otherwise. We aim to create opportunities for people to share self-published works and host events that encourage ideas to spill out onto paper in pictures and words. We believe that by embracing the urge to create and sharing ideas there can be a more robust and formidable local zine community that extends beyond bookstores and bedrooms. In order to accomplish these goals, we are organizing an event that has been needed for a long time: Los Angeles Zine Fest 2012! This is an opportunity for So-Cal zinesters to come together en masse and meet and exchange ideas with those from all over the country.
