About this project

Zine noun \ˈzēn\ : a noncommercial, homemade publication usually devoted to specialized and often unconventional subject matter.

L.A. Zine Fest 2012 is an event celebrating self-publishing and D.I.Y culture. More than 85 creators from all over the country will be selling and trading zines, comix, prints, posters and all things good on paper. Admission is free and includes tunes during the fest (provided by KXLU), plus an opportunity to see special guest speakers including; Jim Smith of The Smell, Sean Carnage, V. Vale and Henry Rollins. There will also be an after party hosted by L.A. Record with live screen printing from Hit + Run (bring a t-shirt or buy one the day-of).

The Fest is taking place on Sunday, February 19th above The Last Bookstore, in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. That's right! It's happening! We have been pooling our money together but we haven't been able to raise enough to cover all the necessary expenses.

All money raised will go towards our event costs including: venue-required security guards; table and chair rental; screens, ink, and paper for our hand-silkscreened posters; postcards to advertise our event; plane tickets to help V.Vale, our guest speaker, get to the Fest and back; hiring a quality sound person to do the sound for our panels and discussions; live silkscreening from Hit + Run; printing programs for the Fest; buying t-shirts and silkscreen ink for one of our pre-events; paying the bands for the afterparty; making a short promo video.

We have some awesome incentive prizes listed to the right. Remember, any amount you are able to give will directly contribute to making L.A. Zine Fest an event we can all be excited to be a part of. Thank you!

Connected as Rhea Tepplim (404 friends)

L.A. Zine Fest 2012 is organized by a group of zine-enthusiasts dedicated to promoting zine culture as a means to connect the pre-exisiting communities in L.A.– artistic or otherwise. We aim to create opportunities for people to share self-published works and host events that encourage ideas to spill out onto paper in pictures and words. We believe that by embracing the urge to create and sharing ideas there can be a more robust and formidable local zine community that extends beyond bookstores and bedrooms. In order to accomplish these goals, we are organizing an event that has been needed for a long time: Los Angeles Zine Fest 2012! This is an opportunity for So-Cal zinesters to come together en masse and meet and exchange ideas with those from all over the country.
