About this project
AlbertMing is a new menswear label that is bringing modern styling and high-performing fabrics to traditional tailored clothing.
The company was founded by two childhood friends, Ming Chang and Albert Shyy, who were frustrated wearing boxy suits and jackets when they wanted to look sharp. Inspired by the innovation in other more forward-looking parts of the apparel industry, we decided to launch a label that met the functional and aesthetic needs of today's generation of men.
Our apparel is tailored for modern men who want clothing that is comfortable, versatile, and stylish. Our concept is Hugo Boss meets The North Face, as we offer “premium performance” through functionality (low maintenance wool, more breathable fabric) and a modern design aesthetic (slimmer cuts, fitted look). We introduced an initial line of suits and a dress shirt last summer, which were featured on NBC and in the SF Chronicle. Next, we are designing a slim-cut, easy-care men's blazer that offers water/stain repellency, a naturally breathable lining, and a fitted modern style.
Why this project: We've been planning to make a blazer for a long time now, as a way to get our clothing onto even more guys who could use our brand of performance + style. We think making a blazer is the perfect way to upgrade your wardrobe with a versatile piece that can shine for work or play.
We're making two different blazers for our initial line.
A navy peak lapel blazer with the following 80/20 wool/silk blend fabric:
A brown-maroon notched lapel blazer with the following 100% wool fabric:
Each blazer is hand-tailored by some of the best tailors in Shanghai, and is lined with fine Bemberg, a renewable material with stronger moisture and temperature regulation properties than commonly-used polyester while providing a naturally sleek feel. This won't be your run-of-the-mill mass produced blazer, but rather a high-quality piece that you'll want to wear over and over again.
As a quick recap, the blazers will have:
- A modern fitted cut
- Stain-proof nanotech performance wool
- Breathable Bemberg lining
- Hand-tailored attention
They'll be available in jacket sizes 36, 38, 40, 42, 44. If you don't fit into one of these sizes, drop us a line and we'll see if we can make a special size for you.
What are the funds for: We’re looking to raise at least $2,500 to help cover the costs of materials and labor for our initial batch of blazers. We've spent several months designing the product and preparing for launch. Ming is even traveling to Shanghai to work with our tailors to ensure they're made exactly according to our specifications.
Update (1/17): Ming's finished the first round of prototyping with our blazers, and we wanted to share a few photos! We'll be tweaking a few touches to get it to match exactly what we're envisioning (sharp, sleek, modern) but these should provide a good indication of where we're going. For the buttons we're going with a faux cowhorn that's stitched using thread that's the same color as our inner lining piping (yellow for our navy blazer, fuchsia for our brown-maroon blazer).

We'll make every effort to get you a blazer that's a great fit - for starters, check out our sizing chart (see previous FAQ) if you don't already know your jacket size. If you think you may need a bit of extra alteration, just let us know and we'll figure out how to make the appropriate adjustments on our end by walking you through a couple of simple measurements.
Also, both the sleeves and jacket length can be increased by 1 inch if necessary (or shortened) as we'll tuck in some extra fabric that's sewn in.
If you live in the SF Bay Area (or potentially in LA), we can even do a short fitting in person!
