Moving through the waves and tides of experience ~
This winter, Urban Coastal Dance Project will be presenting Aquatic Parallels at AS220's 95 Empire Black Box Theatre on December 6th, 7th, & 8th. A cutting edge, full length program that illustrates the intricate similarities between body systems and aquatic environments. Aquatic Parallels transcends barriers between disciplines and genres. Through motion, music and lighting, Aquatic Parallels will present a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of the planet and life and will inspire action to support the health of the Earth's oceans, waterways and all living things. Urban Coastal Dance is committed to fostering environmental responsibility through modern art. Aquatic Parallels will give the natural world a vibrant voice through innovative choreography, truthful dancing and artistic collaboration.
We are a group of dancers and musicians creating work rooted in our connection to the natural world. We began working together in the spring of 2012 and have kept a stream of creative ideas, musical compositions and new choreography going and flowing ever since. Thanks to the support of family and friends, we have been able to remain dedicated and focused on the goal of fostering environmental awareness through art. We are also bringing a new spin on contemporary dance to the beautiful city of Providence, Rhode Island. We are currently preparing for our full length dance performance, inspired by and celebrating oceanic tides and currents by relating these themes to the rhythms of our own bodies and human experience.
The funds that we receive from this campaign will go directly to:
- Artists/Dancers/Composers
- Theatre Rental
- Rehearsal Space
- Lighting/Sound/Tech crew
- Equipment Rentals
- Printing costs
- Costumes
This theatre in downtown Providence, is not typically used for dance performances and we need your help in opening this up as an avenue for experiencing live dance performances.
Thank you for your interest in our work and we hope you can support us as we build our project. We also hope to see you at one of our performances in December!

Thank you :)

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Working in a small theatre space is definitely one of our challenges. We can only have a limited amount of dancers in the space at one time. A risk that we take on is being able to cover all of the costs of the project. There has been and will be a great amount of volunteer work involved. There are some production elements that may not be feasible due to limited means. We recognize that we may not be able to pay the artists as much as they deserve. The resources for the stage crew are also limited. Basically, raising the funds necessary for this project to be a success is one of the biggest factors.
