Hello The Cucaranchula Backers!

First of all, thank you for being so patient with all of us!

The live-action edit is finished! Editor Nick "Frantic Empire" Anderson is putting the final touches on the sound track. Animator Brooke Duckart is hard at work on the remaining animation sequences. And composers Mark Zbikowski and Marty Brueggemann are hard at work on original music. Yes, you heard me. Original music. And it sounds terrific!

So far, we're still looking at a Spring 2013 completion date. You'll be getting what's coming to you soon!

Once again, thank you for your contributions and your support. We couldn't have done it without you!

Sincerely,

Kate Balsley (Writer/Director/Producer)

P.S. Oh yeah! Here's some more amazing concept art from that ever-so-talented Brooke Duckart.

Fine-Tuning, Sound-Design, Concept Art

Update #11 · Jan 18, 2013 · comment

Hello Cucaranchula Backers!

Now that a new year is upon us,  I'd like to let you know where we stand with The Cucaranchula.

We're fine-tuning the fine cut at this point, and Nick Anderson and I have begun sound design. Milwaukee musician and Rival FM founder Mark Zbikowski is composing original music for the film, and animator/illustrator Brooke Duckart has come up with some gorgeous concept art for more animation sequences. (Unfortunately, illustrator John Will Balsley had other obligations that he needed to attend to, so he is no longer working on the project. But he is working hard on your rewards!)

Although I generally don't like rushing things, we're working towards a March of 2013 completion date. Stay tuned!

Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,

Kate Balsley

Gettin' Close!

Update #10 · Dec 2, 2012 · comment

Hello Cucaranchula Backers!

I'm excited to say that editor Nick Anderson has assembled a fine-cut of The Cucaranchula. All that needs to be done at this point is sound-design and a little bit of post-production. Luckily, Milwaukee's own Nick Eason is working on that as we speak!  I'm also proud to say that animator/illustrator John Will Balsley is set to start work on additional animated sequences in January.  So, we're looking to have a finished product in the early Spring of 2013. (Or maybe even sooner!)

I've shown the fine-cut to several filmmakers that I know in Milwaukee, Chicago and Los Angeles. So far the reviews have been excellent! Quinn Hester's beautiful cinematography was praised to the skies, as well as the terrific acting of stars Taylor Lhamon, Zach McClain, and Sally Katherine Staats. Brooke Duckart's animation of The Cucaranchula got several surprised gasps at all the right scenes! Success!

I'd like to apologize to all of you for the lack of updates in the past few weeks. We may have been quiet, but we've been making steady progress. Once The Cucaranchula is as good as done, I'll send out a request for information so we can get your rewards to you, safe and sound. (Trust me, they are worth waiting for you!)

Very Truly Yours,

Writer/Director/Producer Kate Balsley
