Update #7: DVD Update
Update #6: Strategy Summit update
Dear Honey Bee and Mother Earth supporters,
I am writing to you from the 'friendly skies' bound to NYC where Working Films and the Natural Resources Defense Council will be hosting a strategy summit on bee-half of the film. Participants include Burt's Bees, National Audubon Society, Bioneers and Slow Food USA. We will spend the day discussing how these organizations can use our film to advance their missions and how they can help us bring the film out to the general public.
As you may know it take a lot of work to make a documentary. We're pushing four years!
We thank you for all your support.
Pledges are still coming in and we need it. Some of our goals include hiring a publicisit, editing an educational version for our campus tour and bringing the film to theaters in the spring. We played it safe by setting $10,000 as a our goal, but the truth is we need about $100,000. So let's see how much more we can raise before National Honey Bee Day August 21st.
If interested, we are asking organizations and concerned citizens to disperse an email to their social networks on National Honey Bee Day. Email us at info@vanishingbees.com and we cand send you our blast. We want to create a big buzz.
We look forward to sharing the film with you very soon!!!!!!!
thank you for your support.
Update #5: Hive Mentality Rules
Dear Backers,
Thank you soooo much for your support. We played it safe and set a goal of $10,000 and we made it. YOU made it possible~!!!!
We are off to attend a strategy summit in NYC on Aug 20, which will be hosted by the NRDC. Audubon Society, Burt's Bees, Sustainable Table, Bioneers and Garden of Life are just some of the attendees. We then will be launching our Bee the Change campaign on National Honey Bee Day August 21 whereupon concerned citizens and organizations will be setting up screenings all over the world!
Upon my return to Los Anglees (i am taking a few weeks to go see my 95 year old grandmother in Toronto and celebrate my niece's three year old birthay in Montreal) I will start sending out your gifts~! Please be patient they will likely arrive in beginning of October.
Also, we are still raising money to hopefully have a theatrical release by February. So since we have a few more days for this campaign we will continue to welcome pledges...
Thank you! We are working hard to be in service to the message the bees have to impart.
Every day is truly a gift.

Update #4: Ellen Page Speaks About the Film
Now there is no stopping me with updates!
Just kidding. We had a couple false starts here to get this up and running.
As I type this, George and I are in Topanga (where he lives and keeps our hives) making some last finishing touches with the b-roll. Those are the images one lays over synchronous footage so that a documentary doesn't just consist of talking heads. The film is looking good!
Thank you for your support and for those who upped your pledges. Please pass this around!
Update #1: Our First update
Whoops. Apparently it's good to provide update to our backers. But i just found out about this now. sorry.
So, we are almost there!!! We launch our Bee the Change Campaign on August 21 which is National Honey Bee awareness Day. I (Maryam) is going to New York City in a few days to attend a summit which the NRDC is hosting in our honor. Slow Food, Bioneers, Burt's Bees, Audubon Society and others are going to spend the day talking about how they can use the movie to advance their mission.
George is not going becuase of our budget constraints but he will Skype and partake remotely.
We are having a fundraiser on Friday in Venice and it's going to be a Bee Bash. It's going to be packed and i am going to bee wearing a very special outfit. we will take pics and post on Facebook.
Thank you all for supporting this film. We want to educate and raise awareness. It's a good film if i may say so myself and it's taken THREE years of our lives.
I didn't know how hard it is to make a documentary. Geez! But i am grateful to be an ambassador for the bees. They've initiated me and made me grow.
Thank you. Please spread the word so we can make our goal. It's all or nothing. Hive Mentality is the way to go!!!!!!

Thanks for the updating, Maryam! This is exciting news and I'm reposting your Kickstarter challenge to friends and at social media sites, as well as increasing my pledge. Hopefully others will do likewise so you & George & Vanishing of the Bees can meet the $10K goal...less than $2,300 to go!

Connected as Maryam Henein (1809 friends)
Maryam Henein is the founder of HoneyColony. I am also an investigative journalist and the director of the internationally acclaimed documentary Vanishing of the Bees, narrated by Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page.
Making this film over the past five years stressed the fact that food – organic food - is sacred medicine and that our current agricultural landscape with it’s monocultures and poisonous chemicals is unsustainable. Health is our birthright, we just need access to the right information and food alternatives.
My path toward a holistic lifestyle started nine years ago, at the age of 29, when I stepped into a cross walk and was hit by a Ford Explorer at 35 miles an hour. The incident hurled my life along a transformational trajectory. Overnight I went from a young go-getting freelance journalist to a young woman with broken bones and a titanium rod in her leg.
Because of the trauma, I eventually developed food allergies and had to cut out dairy, wheat and sugar from my diet. Slowly, I witnessed my mood and periods improve and the fog lift from my mind. Curious, I began researching everything I could about the healing properties of plants, vitamins, minerals and super foods.
As I delved into the world of nutrition I realized that it is also filled with scams, bogus products, and hyped-up promises.
With HoneyColony my goal is to create a trusted resource to help people navigate through the plethora of alternatives on the market, both on the shelf and online.
