Connected as Maryam Henein (1906 friends)
Maryam Henein is the founder of HoneyColony. I am also an investigative journalist and the director of the internationally acclaimed documentary Vanishing of the Bees, narrated by Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page.
Making this film over the past five years stressed the fact that food – organic food - is sacred medicine and that our current agricultural landscape with it’s monocultures and poisonous chemicals is unsustainable. Health is our birthright, we just need access to the right information and food alternatives.
My path toward a holistic lifestyle started nine years ago, at the age of 29, when I stepped into a cross walk and was hit by a Ford Explorer at 35 miles an hour. The incident hurled my life along a transformational trajectory. Overnight I went from a young go-getting freelance journalist to a young woman with broken bones and a titanium rod in her leg.
Because of the trauma, I eventually developed food allergies and had to cut out dairy, wheat and sugar from my diet. Slowly, I witnessed my mood and periods improve and the fog lift from my mind. Curious, I began researching everything I could about the healing properties of plants, vitamins, minerals and super foods.
As I delved into the world of nutrition I realized that it is also filled with scams, bogus products, and hyped-up promises.
With HoneyColony my goal is to create a trusted resource to help people navigate through the plethora of alternatives on the market, both on the shelf and online.
I plan to have a hive this coming spring!
Wow, I really look forward to seeing the change in humanity after everyone watches this film...
Never mind. I got an email from amazon.com. It was done automatically. I dont remember giving my credit card info but I guess I did, or amazon has it already. Congratulations Maryam and George!
I can't figure out how to pay.
Awesome!!! Congratulations...looks like you just made it! I am also a hobbyist beekeeper in St. Louis, Missouri. I made my first donation to your bee-utiful project a couple of years ago. Thank you for your determination and passion!
I am a hobbist beekeeper from Saint Louis, Missouri and support your project. I am looking forward to viewing your completed project. Thanks for your attention to this important subject!
I love my "girls" and I hope by pledging my help in funding this project, their many "sisters" can continue to grow and thrive as well as the importance of educating the world about how necessary it is that we keep striving to provide them with a healthy environment and understand their vital importance to the world. (Wow, that was a long sentence!) I can't imagine life without the "buzz of bees" in my gardens.
This is my 3rd donation. I gave several yrs. ago when I first learned about your documentary. Let's hope that "our hive" swarms many times and spreads the message far and wide. Bees and MotherEarth desparately need our help! My 2 hives here in the Willamette Valley in Oregon appear to be doing very well. I will be taking off the honey supers the middle of next week. Huuummmmbbbly yours, Linda Z.
Thank you Judy! We hope to meet our goal!
My husband and I live in Washington County, New York, where farmers are heavily dependent on bees to pollinate their crops and sustain their livelihoods. We have been very concerned about the plight of the bees. Although the symptoms have not yet found our area, we know it's just a matter of time. We'll send this to many others who are concerned, and we wish you luck in reaching your goal. As I'm sure you've been told many times, the video is marvelous.
This is a great cause so we'll be promoting the dvd over here in France. The issues are the same world wide so I'm really looking forward to sharing this with others on our blog http://www.beesinfrance.com . Good luck!
Thank you Shaun. If we don't meet our goal the nobody gets a dvd and we don't get any funds. So please rile up interest with your friends and foes. : )
Great cause, great DVD!
Thanks Robynne. unfortunately once you stake your minimum pledge you can't go back and add another one for a lesser amount. However, you can go to wwww.vanishingbees.com and click on donate and give as much or as little as you'd like.
thank you
can you add a less minimum of $1 and $5 some of us just want to help and would be happy to simply hear how the project is going over email so it won't cost you postage etc... I think you are missing out on a lot of fundraising as I just tried to give you $5 but could not as the minimum is $25. Good luck. I'll check back in mid-August to see if I can give $5 again.
I hope you will reach your goal in time!! I spread the Buzzzz!
Good luck, your 1/10th of the way there.
I own OwensAcres.com, a small certified organic farm in northern California specializing in herbs and lavender. Bees are my best friend! Thank you for your efforts on behalf of the bees!!! Laura Owens
Thank you Deb!
Happy to be your first Backer on Kickstarter! Wish it could be more. I'll do what I can to spread the word.
Thanks so much for making this film.
