Better Half is a film project designed to offer students at Art Center College of Design the chance to work on a feature length film
LOGLINE: A self-centered DC businessman must confront his true feelings about fatherhood and family when the sudden loss of his partner leaves him facing the future as a single parent.
WHAT IS BETTER HALF FILM PROJECT?
The idea is to produce a purely creative, socially conscious film work without the burden of having to make a profit. In a culture of film schools that turn out mass short narratives every year, Art Center College of Design is uniquely populated with designers, artists and filmmakers students primed for feature length projects, working in a professional level. Studio class credit is meant to simulate a real world situation where work is “paid”, and eliminate the uncertainty involved with using an all-volunteer crew.
The Goal:
With the participation of at least eight (8) Art Center students, engage in the production of a feature length film through to completion and exhibition in the festival circuit. (So far we have five, including myself)
Where: In and around Pasadena and Los Angeles, California.
When:
Currently, Principle photography is estimated at (24) days, slated for October & November 2011.
What We Need:
EVERYTHING! The Budget for this feature film is a modest $75,000 because I am banking getting lots of products and goods donated. (NOTE: Noncash Donations can be made to this project through Fractured Atlas).
The bulk of the funds raised will go to paying non-student cast & crew. The hierarchy of spending is as follow:
1st - Cast & Crew (based on Ultra Low Budget SAG Scale)
2nd – Locations & Permits
3rd – Daily Production Expenses
If Student feature films were easy, everyone would be doing. But it is possible to aim a little higher by challenging oneself as an artist – even as a student. That is one of the things that Art Center does best, pushes you to be exceptional.
