The sequel to the Gil Scott-Heron project I produced by Giacomo Gates. but w/ Charenee Wade and a heavy Abbey Lincoln influence.
I want to do a memorial album to Gil Scott-Heron. The Giacomo Gates record was a tribute done while he was alive. The video, which was created by Oolyakoo 12, is one of the songs from Giacomo's album. The album spent six weeks at number one on jazzweek.com radio airplay chards. For the memorial album I purposely chose a woman to give a different point of view to the material. The singer, Charenee Wade placed in the Thelonious Monk International Vocal Competition twice. Unlike the Gates project which used experienced session players, we'd like to use three very established names, Christian McBride, Stefon Harris and Marc Cary which adds significantly to the expense. I already have six grand promised, but need another seven to have the project shine.
