A vagabond girl drifts between reality and imagination without lasting satisfaction or repose.
“The Morning Tide” is a narrative short film we are producing in the NYC area. We are a small group of ambitious and dedicated individuals all volunteering our time and creative intelligence in the interest of collaborative filmmaking.
Our Kickstarter campaign goal of $3,000 allots funding for the entire film all the way through distribution, so we need your help!
What is the project?
Synopsis:
A vagabond girl drifts between reality and imagination without lasting satisfaction or repose. She finds a kindred spirit in a charismatic boy who invites her to his tent by the ocean, where she gets a fleeting glimpse of the ‘sublime’.

With this concept we want to portray the relationship between time and existence through which our experience of home, restfulness, and profound connections with other people become transient, leading to eventual disillusionment with the promise of fulfillment and rest. Influenced by Schopenhauer’s idea of the ‘sublime’ and Simone Weil’s notions of distance and beauty, we are exploring restlessness and ‘homelessness’ as intrinsic elements of the human condition.

Additionally, we are interested in presenting a female lead that embodies universal human experience, something traditionally embodied by male leads.
Visually, we are influenced by the “Immediate Family” series by photographer Sally Mann, formalism in visual art and social realism in contemporary world cinema.

Why we need your help
The film is set in multiple locations across NYC, Long Island and Rockland County. We have access to all of the necessary equipment to shoot this project, which enables us to focus our budget on the direct costs of the project, from pre-production through post-production, such as location scouting and test shoots, set building materials, costume design, transportation and meals for the cast and crew, and a releasing plan to film festivals internationally, all of which are vital to the success of this project.
Every bit of support helps, even something as easy as helping us spread the word through social networking sites!
Thank you for your ongoing support, and to those of you who are new, many thanks! We hope “The Morning Tide” is something you wish to be a part of.
