Fairy tales for people who want to quit living a lie

About myself.

Hello! My name is Zach Woomer, I'm a web designer and an illustrator from central Pennsylvania. I have a degree from the Antonelli Institute of Art outside of Philadelphia. I've been a professional designer for 5 years now.

About the project.

This idea is one that I've had since college, and with a tool like Kickstarter it will hopefully become a reality. Kickstarter, the experience I've gained from and since college, the friends I've made who are way more knowledgeable than myself, with these things I finally have the means to pursue this idea. I'll finally get to focus solely on illustration, which has always been my dream as an artist.

The idea is I'd like to make a book of illustrations based off of well known fairy tales. Each illustration will have a more appropriate ending written for the fairy tale the illustration is depicting. I thought it would be fun to explore more realistic endings to these stories. For example, Hansel and Gretel. What would really happen if a couple of unsupervised children walked through the woods leaving trails of food lying around? A gruesome bear attack waiting to happen, maybe? Here is the illustration I did for that scenario:

"Little did Hansel and Gretel know, the trail of bread meant to lead them home led them into the jaws of certain doom."

I'd like to do illustrations for at least 20 stories. As it stands, the stories I'll be including are (this could change, but not likely):

  • Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp
  • Cinderella
  • Hansel and Gretel
  • Jack and the Beanstalk
  • Rapunzel
  • Chicken Little
  • Sleeping Beauty
  • The Three Bears
  • The Three Little Pigs
  • The Gingerbread Man
  • Red Riding Hood
  • The Frog Prince
  • Three Billy Goats Gruff
  • Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves
  • Snow White and Rose Red
  • The Tinderbox
  • The Golden Goose
  • Beauty and the Beast
  • The Nightingale
  • The Princess and the Pea

Sweet perks.

The main goal is to obtain enough resources to complete this project, the end result being a perfect bound book of illustrations and lovely life lessons. It will also hopefully be the start of my career as an illustrator. But, to sweeten the deal, each tier of contributions gets you more sweet art from the book, the highest tier being one of the original illustrations! Also, there will be additional rewards depending on how successful this campaign is, so hopefully things go well!

In conclusion.

For all who contribute, I couldn't thank you enough. I hope you like the book as much as I'm going to like making it!
